Button for cargo lights not working

I have an XLT and noticed the cargo lights button doesn’t turn on the cargo lights. The only time they come on is when. I unlock my truck, maybe open the doors. Is there a trick to getting this to work?

I have an XL, and the cargo light button seems to only work when parked. I suppose it might be a safety issue to be able to flick a light that high up on and off? Unsure.

I just tried mine and did not work on first push. Then held and released it worked . I was in garage with vehicle on and off while sitting in truck ( door opened / or closed ) . first push may have been too quick and not engaging enough . worked every time after that . truck must be in park for it to work .

Found out mine works when in park! You guys are right. Works great.

Feeling like an idiot. I cannot get my cargo lights for the XLT to come on but don’t know if there’s some magic combo of keys/lights order to get it to work. I also have the lux package with the outlet and light. Can’t seem to get that light on either

Am I missing something? Or do I maybe have a faulty light?
