I purchased a bug shield hood protector from Amazon. The name of the mfg was xipoqix. It has been on the truck 2 months. All of a sudden there is a grey weathered looking strip showing through the deflector exactly where the 3m tape was applied on the face down side of the shield. I've tried to clean the grey strip but it is coming from the bottom outward. Im afraid to pull the shield for fear of damaging the paint. I think the only option is to paint the shield. Has anyone had this same problem with their xipoqix hood shield?

I’ve removed a bug shield attached by 3M Automotive Tape before. If you’re not careful you can break the shield - but the hood can stay ok.

Just need a heat gun / hair dryer and a pry tool of plastic. Heat the shield and gently pry it off a few inches at a time.

Then you’ll need to clean off the tape/glue residue. My go to cleaner is Patterson Car Care.

I’ve also rattle canned bug shields before installing. Matte Black is easy. Gloss Black hard.

3M Automotive Tape can be purchased in rolls from Amazon etc.
Peel your shield off, clean & retape the bottom, paint and restick it to your hood.

Thank you. Ill try to walk it off the hood slowly w heat.
Any suggestions about a better made shield. The one made by xioquix is junk.

Maybe take off the stupid tape-on deflector from various brands and look at the AVS Bugflector II instead. It mounts on the underside of the hood using the existing bolt holes. It also covers the front edges of the fender, unlike all the tape-on ones.

Awesome. Did not know that was available. Definitely the right way to go.
Now to see if I can get the existing shield and tape off the hood without having to repaint the hood.

The tape is meant to not hurt automotive paint - but take it slow & warmish. If your have fishing line - you can use that underneath shield to help pry off. Or dental floss…

Be gentle rubbing the excess tape off the hood. Definitely should not need any repainting - especially since the new bug deflector will cover damage;)

The AVS BugFlector II is a good quality item .
I did have some trouble in 2024 with the holes aligning correctly, but easily solved that with my Dremel with a "cone" shaped emery grinder attachment ( it may be named something else) but that's my description of the attachment that I used to slightly make the BugFlector II holes a little more oblong so that they lined up with the hood holes. I think AVS has rectified the problem since 2024. And the extra width to cover the front fender edges is a plus. Worth the $$, still looks new.
And I put the 4 little round "bumpers" on the backside of the BugFlector II, instead of sticking them on my paint on my hood.
Same end result to keep it from touching hood.

One more detail: AVS has corrected the minor fit problem of the BugFlector II slightly rubbing the left front fender when opening and closing the hood~~~~ but the Dremel attachment solved that for me during installation

I had the dealer put on the Ford unit before I even picked it up. Had it for 15 months (20th miles) and is still fine. Had similar one on my Escape for 3 years and was fine. Had some damage from an accident on the front end. Repair shop removed it from the Escape and put it back on. Some times it pays a little extra to get better quality than the junk you can buy online.

I love my bug deflector from Mabetts. I have the rear cab protector from xioquix and it is fine.
