I have a 2022 Maverick and early on, as I was slowing down I would sometimes here a loud bang, like someone was literally hitting the side of my truck. The dealer twice said they "couldn't duplicate the issue". Eventually, there was a recall and a software fix and it went away. It barely came back again, and they put the software back in and the problem went away for a while. The problem now is as I'm slowing down and get to exactly 4 MPH, the brakes grab just a little, enough for me to notice. Maybe I'm more sensitive to this because I drive a tour bus and stopping smoothly is important. Literally every other car I hop into, the brakes don't do this. I've had two dealers test it and they say it's either nothing or "normal for Mavericks". Sometimes I notice it more going down an incline but it's definitely noticeable. Anyone else have this situation?

Is your Maverick warm or cold when it does it or is it all the time?

When did you do the last update? As Ford has indeed released multiple updates to address the issue. Towards the end of last year we had an update performed and it essentially removed it entirely.

I'm guessing an update was performed about six months ago. When I got an oil change about a month ago, they checked it out, said everything is normal and that an update is worthless :(

Pretty much all Maverick Hybrids do this.

I think it is more apparent if you are gently slowing and only using regenerative braking. Then, at 3-4 MPH the electric motor suddenly lets go, and the hydraulic brake pads have to instantly take over.

Hard for a computer to do this smoothly. Impossible for a human.

Those who brake more quickly are using a blend of regeneration and brake pads for their entire deceleration, and therefore, feel no sudden switch over.

They're also wearing out their brake pads faster, than if one brakes gradually and let the regeneration do most of the braking. The downside to letting regeneration do most of braking is the less than graceful braking sometimes, at around 4 mph. Personally, I prefer to let regeneration do as much of the braking as possible.

I have a '23 hybrid, and the transition from regenerative to friction braking at about 4 MPH is often noticeable. For this to be smooth, the system needs consistent, predictable braking versus hydraulic pressure, and it seems to me that many factors like overnight corrosion of the rotors make this impossible. So... some amount of braking effect change at that point will always be "normal" for a hybrid.

I had a Honda Clarity plug-in hybrid. The brakes on that car were indistinguishable from pure hydraulic brakes. Honda figured out how to do this. Ford has obviously not.

How much did the Clarity cost? At it's debut year compared to the Maverick's $20k?

I think some of this falls under "you get what you pay for".

while I can’t speak for the loud bang the OP mentioned, the symptoms at around 4mph sound very much like the transition from regenerative braking to hydraulic braking. It can be noticeable, particularly when wet outside.

I got the Clarity on a leasing deal, so the equivalent price was less than I paid for my Lariat Maverick.
