People are trying to evacuate. Problem is when you evacuate, you are buying things to survive for a few days and filling up your vehicles with gasoline. When thousands of people are trying to do that at the same time, gas stations run out of gas, stores run out of supplies and roads become clogged for days. As a result, some opt to try and stay put.
In a hybrid, they go 700+ miles on a tank if you keep it 55 mph and under, more stop n go the better.

That gets you Orlando to Nashville TN!

Throw in air conditioning the whole way and you'll still go 600 miles.

Remember: the fuel tanks are really 16 gallons not the advertised 13.8.

If ever there was a legit case for topping off.... and then driving into the 2.5 gallons of reserve; this is it.

I am in Orlando so hunkering down . Hardened house back starting in 05 when Orlando was crisscrossed with 4 storms in 04 . hurricane shutters , heavy duty roof and etc . was without electricity for 8-9 days and had honda 2000 generator that helped us immensely during that time . Mav in garage and Camry in between houses to help protect it . Higher area , so flooding doesn't seem to be a problem . ready as possible and waiting .

Maybe if we gave him back his stapler he'll leave. All jokes aside, stay safe out there guys.

I am safe in MW Ohio, but own a seasonal home inland near Sarasota. The last hurricane I was told our neighborhood got about 2 inches of rain and winds topping out abut 35 mph. My neighborhood might not be that lucky this time. The forecast is for winds up to 90 mph. We have two vehicles in the two car garage. Neither has very many miles on them. I am praying the storm fades away, but I doubt it will.

Unfortunately, my family and I are in South Florida bracing for impact for the storm that approaches us. I guess on the bright side, we're on the east coast as oppose to the west. But we're still going to get devastating impacts such as damaging winds, power outages and potential storm surge. According to the latest forecast, it is slated to strike as a category 2 hurricane when it makes its way through central and eastern Florida. As if the west hasn't had enough to deal with after experiencing Helene less than two weeks ago. It's like 2004 all over again with these back-to-back storms. For safe measure, we're parking our vehicles on the side of the house which has a high elevation which will keep the cars away from potential flooding. Crossing my fingers for the best.
Prayers aimed Florida's way... The Texas Coast knows your pain and worry

Hey you will be fine, I live in Florida west coast and evacuated to the east coast. Good thing you put the cars in higher ground

They're evacuating the Gulf coast, not the Atlantic coast. I'm stuck in the middle here in Orlando. No storm surge here. :)

Edit: Now I hear they're evacuating the Atlantic coast in Volusia County, but that's not in the south part of the state.
Yes many people on the barrier islands are being told to evacuate. Tomorrow we (Volusia) and Brevard are predicted to have a real bad storm surge. I wouldn't be surprised unfortunately if we has several homes or condos wash into the Atlantic.

Well as of now we have both hitting Florida 😞
7 reported on Milton's leading edge, more after.

According to the weather service, Milton is likely to spin off more tornadoes than many Category 4 hurricanes, given two things: Milton’s wind sheer and instability.
