I live in Northern Utah. It can get cold here, but I do park it in my garage.

I think I'll email the Ford salesperson I'm working and ask about it.
Ya!..........I believe your situation is similar as Ford does not offer the Smoking Pkg. here in Canada whereas the Block heater is......so it's a regional thing.
I find it strange that they would not at least offer the choice considering wind chill can quickly bring down Temperatures to -40 F.

Exactly! The block heater should be a selection option. And as you noted,, Wind chill is definitely a factor!

Have been & lived in areas just south of Hudson Bay that if it wasn't for the Block Heater & some of the other things I previously mentioned no way would it start. However once started had to wait 1/2 hr. for the transmission to heat up before I could change gears & then drove on squeaky snow & square tires for the next 15 min.
Wind Chill is Deadly no matter where you are!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

I'm not sure how the engine block heater works with FORD, but I had a factory block heater on my 2017 CHEVY Equinox I just sold. The factory block heater would only work at temps BELOW 0 degrees F. It was thermostatically controlled. There was no gain from plugging it in at any temp above ZERO F which I thought was stupid. It should work at any temp when plugged in. Plugging it in on a 5 degree day would benefit nothing because it wouldn't turn on. Anyone know EXACTLY how these FORDS work?

Something to think about.

I can tell you how it works in an Escape Hybrid.... Mine's s dumb heating element, independent of the rest of the car. It's really nice for getting heat on short trips in cold weather, but not a necessity.

BTW, the car couldn't care less about wind chill. It's not alive. Inanimate objects see whatever temperature the thermometer reads.

I think you misunderstand the context of the above message my friend.
It was meant to translate as dangerous to those who depend on their vehicle.
Not the vehicle!

Hello, first post - just bought my truck yesterday. It came with a block heater..pretty common to see them in northern MN

I was a bit surprised to see just a plug sitting next to the radiator. My past vehicles(dodges) had a length of cord that popped out near the hood making it easy to plug in.

I'm wondering if anyone has routed a cord from the heater block plug and where they had it exit the truck. Last night I just popped my hood and plugged the extension chord directly into the heater block plug but then the truck wouldn't remote start because the hood was slightly open. If anyone has any ideas I'd love see them. Thanks!

I don't remember seeing a block heater as an option anywhere when I was doing my build on Ford.com? I guess I missed it. I just placed my order yesterday; can this still be ordered?
I considered it here in Austin Texas but did not select it. It was an option on the build site in August. I wonder if it was just lost in all the vender added options they recently put in. I think I would use it when temps got below 30F simply to shorten time it takes to warm HVB, cabin, +(?). I know Ford reccomends it at -20 but I would consider it mandatory at +10F (if not +20F) but I am central Texas and at +20F go into "hibernation".

Can you 3d print a door to replace the "XLT" plastic badge on the side near the front door. (Is that there because that's where the are going to put the cord entry for the plug-in version?).

I added the Engine Block Heater to my EB build, it is a MUST HAVE for anyone in the northern states, especially so for the Hybrid. I will never order a vehicle without one if possible.

I have a factory block heater option included in a Lariat build. I live in Wisconsin and it can get pretty cold here. It was 30-40° below (with wind chill) last week. We have a one car garage so the Mav will have to sit out. I’m guessing it will be May before I get my truck.
