Afternoon folks,

We have a pretty large membership here, and a lot of active forum users. Hopefully someone here can comment on this.

I have seen fill in generic contracts, powers of attorney, that kind of thing at places like office max. I've even used a few over the years.

What would be the feasibility of drawing up a purchase agreement to take with to the dealership when ordering? Something that will spell out the agreed apon model, options, and pricing? (Trying to prevent market adjustments and/or $200 nitrogen in the tires, $1000 ceramic coatings (with turtle wax) or other such add on scams)

Will a basic document work assuming it spelled things out adequately and was signed by both parties?

My order is getting bumped, so I already have one in. There are those that are planning to order in a few weeks. Perhaps something like that would help a few not get scammed?

Any attorneys here that care to comment on this?

I'm just a mechanic with a random idea, lol.

My thoughts on this is the dealer, even the good ones, will say "Thanks but no thanks, go order somewhere else."

They most likely do not want to deviate from their established processes. Assuming you are a mechanic who works for a business and not just "shade tree", I would assume your shop would say the same if a customer came in with their own contract and asked your front desk to sign it. Even if your shop is 100% legitimate and always treats customers with excellence.

Anyone with the authority will never sign it.

I love the idea but as the comments above suggest, I'd really doubt a dealer would sign off on that.

And there is certain language required on auto contracts as well.

Fair enough, likely not a particularly good idea from the dealers perspective.

And yes, I'm an actual mechanic that works for a buisness. Been turning wrenches for a living since the mid 1980s. I also don't handle legal contracts or other administrative things. Thats why I asked.

No dealer would ever use some "contract" a customer brings in. Ever. If you don't trust the dealer you're working with not to screw you over, go find another dealer.

I've heard too many horror stories to trust any of them.

That said, I'm prepared to walk away and try somewhere else if things do go south.
