An auto engineer buddy once told me "We don't change it because you need it. We change it because we know how."
If it ain't broke, why did they need to change it? (I'll bet there's a reason somewhere).
For more than 20 years Ford has used a consistent, universal, trailer brake controller plug and socket.

I recently borrowed a 2023 E-450. It had the same universal brake controller plug and socket. But the order of the pins (just 4 pins : Brake Input Signal, Trailer Brake Output, 12v positive and 12v negative) had been re-arranged inside the socket. My 20 year old plug attached perfectly. But no dice!

I just purchased a 2025 Maverick xlt 2.0 ecoboost AWD with the 4K towing package. Being someone who likes to do their own maintenance, (YouTube Certified Master Auto Technician here) I watched videos on YouTube on others doing oil changes on their 2022-2024 ecoboost Mavericks.
Be careful. There are changes to the 2.0 ecoboost for 2025 that I'm lucky to have been paying attention to not cause damage.
Example: the oil filter to install is no longer the FL910S. It takes a new FL2127 that has different thread pitch that is not interchangeable. And good luck finding someone that carries it. Autozone? Nope Advance? nope! O'Rileys does. But I'm one of the unlucky ones with none near me. Ebay? Sure! At 2x cost PLUS delivery. Oil pan plug is also different. The AP04 magnetic plug everyone recommends won't fit properly and leaks.
What other surprises await?
Double check with your owners manual before you preform any maintenance or mods. When you see something in a video, but Amazon/Ebay warns it does not fit your 2025. Pay attention.
Hope this helps. Wish it was me getting warned before my mistakes.
I did my first oil change the other day and used the AP04 Gold Plug. It fit OK and I ran the engine for a while and no leakage was noted. I also seen another post where they used the AP04 on the 2025 Ecoboost. Are you sure about that plug? I'm worried now that after a while it could start leaking,

Found out in another thread that the FL-2127 & FL-500S have the same thread, M22x1.50. FL-500S is longer.
Downside to putting the FL-500S on instead of the shorter FL-2127. I hear this about the pressure when using the 500s:
Low Pressure Risks: A valve with a too-low pressure setting may open too often, allowing unfiltered, dirty oil to circulate, causing premature engine wear. The FL-500s causes low pressure. Maybe stick with the FL-2127

Are you positive about the Gold Plug AP04 drain plug? I did my first oil change the other day on my 2025 EB. I installed the Gold Plug GP13 which is the rubber gasket version. Thread specs are the same as Ford's plug. It fit good and no leaks noted running engine. I also seen a Facebook post where someone else used the Gold Plug with no issues. I'm aware of the different engine on the 25's, and did a lot of research before I replaced my oil, and yes, I used a FL-2127 oil filter. You got me worried now.

Gold Plug works. Been using the AP04 since delivery on my25 in Feb.2025. Changed the oil to have it tested at about 1000 miles. Truck had 6k miles when I did the 2nd oil change. No leaks. I have checked 5 times.

Thanks for the info. I changed my oil a couple of days ago and used the GP13 which is the rubber gasket version. I ordered both versions direct from Gold Plug.
