This damage was done to my truck on its way being delivered to me. It ended up at a dealership in knockville. Geico assaseted the damage at 7k worth. The body shop kept it for two months did nothing then decided to make a claim saying the entire hybrid system needs to be replaced. Geico said they have to listen to them I can't take it anywhere else or i have to pay for it all. And I have no option but to have it totaled out or drop the claim. They also said they can't second guess a body shop no matter what they say and that they can charge you whatever they want. Now I don't have a truck and have to start all over trying to get one bc all dealership that have them want 5k over sticker

I have replacement cost coverage on my maverick so the 5k is on ins co. Time for attorney as claim should be covered in full and after settlement Geico will make claim against Dealers insurance for full amount anyway. Also dealer should be very obligated to replace to your satisfaction down to same condition with any modifications. May be worth a letter from your "representative". Good luck.

Must be the not so coveted Crushed Edition. What a nightmare. If I saw my new truck arrive looking like that I'd be somewhere between really sad and extremely pissed!

Hope you get it all worked out to your benefit. You should get a pain and suffering discount on your replacement truck.

Which means they started teardown, entered the supplement for discovering the additional repairs required past the initial estimate, and the costs enclosed pushed it closed enough for the insurance to declare it totaled.
Again this is not correct. They where denied additional supplements told they could start the work and would get paid for all work accomplished. The continued to make up stiff of why they couldn't do the work. One excuse w as s the vehicle was to dangerous to work on. Then they pivot to geico would not pay them geico came out and said they would pay them. They never worked on it then said thr entire hybrid system needed to be replaced

Very confusing post. First you say the body shop was denied additional "supplements" which I take is the insurance company totaled the truck after the original estimate went up.

Then you say that the insurance would pay for all work accomplished. Does this mean they paid the body shop for the tear down work and then totaled the truck?

Things are not adding up here.

I believe you have the right to purchase the totaled truck from your insurance company for pennies on the dollar. You will have to have a "Rebuilt title" or "Salvage title". It may be worth your while to do that. I would then have it towed to a body shop that will work with you on the truck.
Good Luck!
If it was financed that may not have been an option. The insurance company is obligated to make the lienholder whole first and the owner may not be able to retain if the settlement amount after salvage cost is less than the outstanding payoff.

No the insurance company said it was just body damage. The body shop requested more work be done. The insurance company came out and said ok what else needs to be done. The body shop couldn't show them any additional damage for requested work so they where denied additional work. The insurance company said you are authorized to fix 8 k worth of damage even if the truck is totaled at a later date you will get paid for that work. 2 months later they added a additional supplement for the entire hybrid system which is actually pretty cheap the parts are only 3k. And 5 hours of work. At this point the insurance adjuster went out again. My guess is after talking to the adjuster he understood they where never going to fix the truck so he just made some stuff up and totaled it out. He did say they just have to take there word on whatever they say. My point is if they where authorized to do 8k worth of work why wouldn't they? I mean what do they care if the truck never runs again they got paid for what they did.

Also I own the truck. The issue now is 2022 was actually the cheapest you could buy it. The truck has gone up in price the hybrid now is a up charge and it comes with less features then it had originally. If you look at the original promo for the truck it was just supposed to be a cheap truck now it's not really that anymore

So the body shop and the insurance company both lied and made things up. Thanks for your reply.

." Further, La. R.S. 22:1892(D) prohibits insurers from requiring a claimant to have repairs made at a particular shop.Jul 28, 2020

You take your Maverick wherever you want! Show them the Law. Get all the opinions you feel comfortable with.

I wouldn't want my new truck already damages, however, it is your choice.

I'm confused, this was a NEW truck? Why would you even think of accepting the truck?

FWIW = My son had a Volkswagen repaired at a body shop. The repairs and supplements amounted to about 14k which was about $2500 below total. After repairs at body shop the check engine light was on and it was towed to dealership which diagnosed as needing complete wiring harness over $6k. Insurance paid body shop for repairs and wrote check for total replacement value of car to my son.
Insurance co could have the $14k repairs plus dealership diagnosis/towing fees if they had totaled it immediately.

Well, you let someone else drive your vehicle...

Sorry, what was the intent of this post again? To argue with what one shop said without getting a second opinion or whine about the mistake you made letting someone else drive your vehicle and the crappy insurance process because of it?

I usually don't post this way, but c'mon man. Don't argue with everyone here about it. Take it to another shop and see what they say.

Maybe its me but 2+2 isn't adding up here. Something seems off.
As far as Geico, I've found them to be great. If you are having trouble with Geico maybe ask to talk with someone else there.
As far as the body shop lying, oh yeah! Had an issue during Covid with a vehicle where the bodyshop was so full of ____. One of those bizarre stories you would think was made for TV.
Geico handled it though.
