This damage was done to my truck on its way being delivered to me. It ended up at a dealership in knockville. Geico assaseted the damage at 7k worth. The body shop kept it for two months did nothing then decided to make a claim saying the entire hybrid system needs to be replaced. Geico said they have to listen to them I can't take it anywhere else or i have to pay for it all. And I have no option but to have it totaled out or drop the claim. They also said they can't second guess a body shop no matter what they say and that they can charge you whatever they want. Now I don't have a truck and have to start all over trying to get one bc all dealership that have them want 5k over sticker

I have heard of a train of thought that an impact to a Hybrid can damage the hybrid battery and there is no way to inspect/test the battery for damage. I don't know if this I just an excuse to "bass the buck" or if there is validity to this.

Especially since by being totalled it's going to a Copart yard to salvage auction instead of paying them to fix it.

Yeah, same for me although my damage was worse. (See pic) The manager admitted that they didn't want it laying around the shop months waiting for parts.
I just bought one off the lot too. They wanted $5k over but I talked them down to $1k. Don't be afraid to haggle. Good Luck.

I believe you have the right to purchase the totaled truck from your insurance company for pennies on the dollar. You will have to have a "Rebuilt title" or "Salvage title". It may be worth your while to do that. I would then have it towed to a body shop that will work with you on the truck.

Most likely frame damage, just because you cannot see it, doesn't mean it's not there. There could also be damage to the axle (based on damage location) and many other out of sight components. The inverter for the hybrid system is in the front driver side, if it is damaged that would be extremely expensive to replace.

Depending on the dealership, they will deliver your vehicle to you. My dealership told me I will know the Explorer is finally fixed when they knock on my front door and hand me the key.

Which means they started teardown, entered the supplement for discovering the additional repairs required past the initial estimate, and the costs enclosed pushed it closed enough for the insurance to declare it totaled.

My dealer picked up my maverick and drove it to the dealership to do the airbag recall and brought it back when finished at no charge. They did take around 12 pictures when picking it up and another 12 after delivery presumably so I could not claim they hurt my maverick?
