Ordered my maverick back in November (expected build 2/7).

Saw that my dealership had two mavericks in stock; a Lariat and a XLT. Wanted to see the vehicle in person (as I have not yet come across one).

I figured that there would be a markup, but OMG!!!

The Lariat was marked up 13k for a 42k sale price
XLT was marked up 8k to 34k sale price

I did verify that there would no markup on my vehicle and was assured there would not be. I am really curious who is paying a 50% markup? There was a dude who came up while I was peeping the XLT and starting trying to haggle for MSRP. The salesman laughed and said there was no way given the shortage.

What a time to purchase my first brand new vehicle!
These are good examples of Mavs that were probably customer orders who cancelled since Ford is not stocking dealer lots. The dealers want you to cancel and probably laugh as they hang up the phone. No more obligation to you means +10k from someone else.

Take delivery and resell it yourself it's easy. Or have them pay you 5k to walk away. Just don't give up control of your Mav for free.

Exactly, picked the mav as my first truck because of the affordababilitlty even with the options, now they are marking it up and its approaching the price point for the bigger trucks.
I just got lucky yesterday. Saw a maverick getting off a truck. It was exactly what I ordered from a different dealership. They sold it to me for MSRP. They said the same I said about these other thieves aka dealers. Any dealer that marks up a retail or stock are thieves. It’s not right, it’s an entry level truck.

First, people need to just not buy from these dealerships. They should not be marked up a dime over MSRP. I just got mine that I did not order for MSRP.

I look in the mirror just fine. Realize I made a mistake, but also

Appreciate the reply and have used a screen shot of your wording to reply to the dealer, Thank you!
He's referring to the car dealer looking in the mirror not you

I know, I know, I know....... I should have got something signed when I ordered my Mav back in July. I was told in my meeting during ordering that
I was locking in price and would avoid the almost guaranteed rise in value as demand goes up. Waited close to 6 months eagerly checking status of my order dang near everyday. Truck get delivered this morning 12-15-21. Dealership calls this morning to tell me there would be a $4,500 dealer mark up. Being that I am already out of that state due to a military PCS I would already have to buy a $500 plane ticket as well as almost 12 hour drive back to my new home I have decided to back out. So now a beautiful Ford Mav sitting in Altus, Oklahoma at a very crappy dealership of Wilmes Ford. At a awesome $4,500 mark up, which they may change to almost $8,000 as they are telling me they gave me a half off discount on the mark up!!!!!!! How kind of them for thinking of me in doing that!!!! Nope go screw yourself Wilmes Ford of Altus, Oklahoma.

Added in the email I received with explanation.

One final note..... As my wife and I found out about our move to a new state I was in full contact with the dealership. Even looked at price of shipping it to my new home and was quoted at $1,800 for the trip from Altus, Oklahoma to Great Falls, MT. I was in constant contact with the dealer. He had every opportunity to be open and honest that there could be a mark up upon arrival. He did not mention this once in our exchanges. He waited till delivery had happened to let me know. That is why I believe this was his plan all along. To have me walk and sell it to the next guy at a profit. At the end of the day I guess as the buyer all I can do is be mad as they sell my custom order to another inidividual.

Y'all Mr Levine has DM'd me back on twitter. This wrong may be righted after all.

You need to lodge a complaint against this Ford dealership with the Better Business Bureau. I would also send a copy of the complaint to the local news station. Tell them you personally feel that you were treated in an unprofessional and underhanded manner. The dealership used you as a pawn with a possible intent to never sell you the vehicle. I am an avid Ford fan but I am starting to despise some of their dealerships. They are like merchants that price gouge in an emergency!

Don't get overly excited about the Maverick and get sucked into paying a markup. I know none of us have had much to look forward to in the past year other than taking delivery of our Mavericks but it's not worth it to pay even a penny over MSRP. Hyundai is releasing a bunch of new Hybrids in the 20k range and Toyota is accepting orders and only have a 3 month lead time. I would have told that salesman to shove it up his ass and get F*cked and proceeded to leave horrible reviews on yelp, google, dealer rater, and file complaints with the BBB in addition to writing Ford a letter about how corrupt that dealer is and even doctor the story up a little bit and say something along the lines of "I needed a car to transport a disabled person for my work, Ford must have something against disabled people and are taking advantage of hardworking citizens in the middle of a pandemic."

PS: Ford Customer Relations Department is useless. If you have a complaint, they say they aren't responsible and that you need to take it up with the manager of the dealership (who is the one that does the marking up).
