Looking to purchase an all terrain tire to replace the 225 Pirelli's on my 2.0/AWD/FX4/4K build. I will be sizing up with 245/65/17's. I thought I had settled on the Falken Wildpeaks because of many favorable reviews and if Ford used them it seemed like a logical selection. However, in that size those tires are 39lbs, or 10 pounds heavier per tire over stock. Is there another, lighter option people are looking at?

At this time I am also heavily considering the Cooper AT3 4S (36lbs) or the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 (36lbs). Both alternatives have the same 65,000 mile rating as the Falken.

Maybe General Grabber APT or Toyo Open Country A/T III? I usually hear good things about both brands, and come in at 34 lbs each.
Any insight as to what might be a good + size on the stock 17 FX4 rims?

Those Open Country Tires! :love:o_O

You’ll definitely be able to run a 245/65. Anything north of that in size will likely require some sort of trimming (of inner fender liners, lower portion of the bumper or pinch welds) or a small lift when that becomes available.

All terrains are going to be a heavy tire. Those Falkens are awesome tires. Make sure you are looking at a p-metric tire, as LT tires are heavy and don’t ride as soft.

Which ones are they again? And I don’t know why FX4/4K can’t have the 235 at least…

Per the order guide, 235/65R17 is an option on First Edition 2.0L, and the XLT/Lariat 4K Tow package. Lots of others get 225 A/T options.

It can, if you pay $795 for the non-FX4 wheels.

So the AT/235 tires on the XLT wheel upgrade are Falkens ?
