What is the best bug /rock deflector for the hood? I purchased the Ford lund aeroskin not realizing it was a stick on . Will this stay on and if I decide to remove it will it mess the paint up ? Thanks

That 3m tape is extremely strong. Mine hasn’t budged.

How do people wash and wax their truck with a stick-on deflector installed? How do you get the dirt out from under it?

I'm looking for feedback on the Lund Aeroskin models from Ford.

Ford Maverick Best Hood Bug / Rock Deflector? Screen Shot 2022-04-23 at 11.19.16 PM

I wanted this one but it was discontinued over a year ago and replaced with a flat version (-A)

Thr description also says its just a hood protector, not a bug or rock deflector.... wondering if it will do what I actually want.

If you have the flat style can you please share how many miles you've had it on for and how effective is it for delecting rocks or bugs over the windshield.

AVS makes the Bugflector II that attaches under the front of hood via existing holes and does not touch the topside of hood. Only issue is some MTC members (myself included) have had a difficult time getting all 4 underhood OEM holes to match up with predrilled holes in the deflector...nothing that can't be fixed but its not plug&play in some cases.

Nice thing about the Bugflector II is it extends out past the hood on both sides and covers the upper leading edge of the fenders. Some don't like the old-style high profile look but I wanted as much protection as I could get, and also didn't want to 3m tape a deflector unto the hood paint.

I purchased mine via RealTruck.com, mentioned I was a MTC member and got a minor discount (basically paid for the tax).

I have that one on my 22. (The Ford Lund Aeroskin) It's been on over a year. Probaly 100 washes. I have 1 little chip on the hood.

I have driven 32,000 miles in a little over one year.

It works.

I went with the AVS Bugflector II after seeing the amount of debris and rot that gets stuck in the areas where there is no tape on the "flush" style ones. Previously had one on my Tacoma that was the flush style and there was a thread on those forums where multiple people removed them only to find permanent damage underneath. Even if you taped off those portions, the chances of condensation getting in are high. Granted, not many people remove them, but I can wipe everything down and wash normally with the Bugflector II and it has a much better lip to it to redirect air. I see it working all the time the way bugs bounce off.

Always drive in reverse to protect the hood.

(The best, cheapest way. Great mileage with hybrid. All electric reverse.)

AVS Bug Deflector 2, sits higher and extends over front of fenders. You may need to make new center holes, otherwise a great product. - Seems to work well, and no hood flutter).

EGR has same misaligned holes apparently, but another choice for good protection.

I also had to drill new holes to get all 4 fasteners installed. But other than that I'm pleased with the Bugflector II. Even though it is raised from the hood, I can just barely see it from the driver's seat. No visual obstruction from my driving position.

I had my Mav four whole days before I got a rock chip on the windshield, ($40 chip repair/seal), so I started looking hard at deflectors, too. But I'm entirely uncomfortable with the stick on ones, I don't want tape on my paint, and the only bolt on ones I've seen are the ones previously mentioned here that stand up a good bit and cover more than just the hood -- some people like that look, I just don't. So like the OP, I'm still looking. I'd like to see something as smooth looking as the Lund, but bolt on, and maybe with a prominent "lip" to deflect rocks, but if that exists, I haven't seen it yet (there was one early on in Mav-world, but I believe it got DC'd for causing hood shudders). Also looking hard at window films that purport to protect the windshield from chips, but haven't seen an affordable option on that either.

I think I'm going to wind up getting this one. I wish they would offer color matched ones or at least clear ones.
