I currently have a drop in liner that I like a lot in my 24 XLT. The problem is this summer I know I'm going to be hauling kayaks and floats and things that tend to get wet in the back of my Maverick. Just wondering if there's some sort of material other than spray in liner that you can put down on the bed as kind of a protective coat between the drop in bed liner and the bed that would at least keep water from sleeping through or causing rust. Someone in another forum had mentioned maybe spraying the inside of the bed down with some kind of thin lightweight rubberized material that would be cheaper than a spray in liner yet still serve the same purpose .

Fairly modest. Just seeking an alternative that would allow me to allow me to keep the drop in liner and still have a protective coating underneath if that's even possible. I can just get a spray in liner from Bullet for around $500 was the price I was quoted.

Have not had any rust or water issues with the drop in liner after 3 1/2 years. Don’t worry about a little bit of water from a kayak dripping.
I would add that if it's salt water, a freshwater rinse would go a long way to ease your worries before returning the kayak to the bed.

Thank you for your reply.🤝
I understand $500 is a lot especially if you don't need the full treatment.
If you may be able to coat and seal the bottom of the bed for less than $80.
I'm thinking a 1/2 gallon rolled on should cover it.

The drop in liner fits fairly tight, I doubt putting bed liner under it would work.

Why wouldn't rolled on bed liner keep water from seeping through and causing rust as the op posted?

I'm not sure how to make this any clearer. The drop in bed liner fits very tight to the painted parts of the truck. There may not be room for any kind of liner under it.

How thick is liquid roll on bed liner??
It's not much thicker than my fingernail.

Thicker than paint if you want it to work. It's the same rubberized stuff as spay on, you just paint it with a brush instead.

Honestly I would love to hear from someone who has done this successfully because I wouldn't mind painting the bottom of the bed as well. I just don't want to spend the cash and not have the drop in fit anymore.

Here's one and he's a member, who installed the drop in liner over his RINO Sprayed In Liner.
He made it pretty clear.👍🏻 It fits.
Update. I installed the Ford drop in bed liner that I purchased online on top of the Rhino spray in liner that a dealer had done. The drop in bed went in without any trimming other than cutting out the holes for the two panels in the rear bed for the power and storage. I also trimmed ne or two places around that same areas but it was very minor. The drop in liner went in and it is a very tight fit but it fits. I had to oval shape a few holes in the bed liner for the tie done locations since they were drilled off a bit but that was very minor. I also had used a 8mmx1.25 tap to clean out the screw holes that had Rhino material in them. Those 8 screw holes (other ones done my dealer when they remounted the standard tie down brackets) literally took me 5 minutes for all of then using a Ryobi impact driver. Once installed I put a Tyger 3 piece cover on top without any issues. I expect the drop in liner to last 10-15 years like my old Mazda one did...same material, then I use the Rhino. Onto Waxoyl-ing the vehicle.

Nothing to be concerned about. i put a drop in bed liner in my ram over 16 years ago. If I lift it up there isn't a speck of rust. Maybe if you plan on keeping your Maverick 25- 30 years it might be a concern.

If I recall the Maverick bed has two drain hole areas near the front corners and I had the Rhino sealer sprayer on the bed and made sure the drains were still open before dropping in the Ford bed liner. If the truck parks downward slightly you want to allow the water in the bed under the liner to drain or else it may rust in 5 -10 years if it is only factory painted. Test it by putting water in the bed and making sure it can drain when facing downhill.
