‘24 truck came with drop in liner which I find too slick. Tried to drop in a Ford bed mat but the mat is too big. I see 2 options: pull out the floor piece and replace it with the mat or leave the drop iliner in place and trim the mat. Suggestions?

Trim the mat. Sharp razor knife and leather gloves. I cut my 3/4" thick horse stall mat to fit my drop-in-liner bed and didn't cut my hand off. Be careful and cut that sucker. Cut away from you, not towards.

or you could just paint the floor with a DIY bed liner kit

Some of those bedliners can be have a pretty aggressive texture that the mat would mitigate. Depending on what they want to throw back there.

yeah, those DIY kits are brush or roll on, not very aggressive. mats are just something else to clean and clean under

I pulled out 3 of the 5 pcs that make up the DIBL…2 side pcs and floor. Too slick and retains debris. Then dropped in the Ford OE bed mat…perfect for my needs. I don’t plan on carrying anything that would scratch up the sidewalls. But if sidewalls do get scratched up then Line-X the whole bed some time in the future...

I ordered the ford soft bed liner and cut off the tailgate part because the adhesive wasn’t sticking and installed the hard tailgate cover

My thoughts: Sounds like you really want SIBL. Why wait? Before you cut the drop-in that came with your XLT Lux pkg, try to sell it. Use the $$$ to offset the cost of SIBL.

On my '22 EB, I showed my LineX dealer that Ford charges $495 for SIBL and he matched the price for cash. At that time in 2022 he had never seen a Mav and didn't realize it has a 4'6" bed.

Side note: My 2024 Lariat hybrid came with Ford SIBL. Compared to the LineX job on my 2022, the Ford coverage is skimpy, they don't spray the top rail under the rear window nor all of the tailgate like LineX does.

Trim the mat.

K.I.S.S.

You paid for the drop in, might as well keep it in there. Lots of cool posts about how creative people get with bed mats and such here though.

They don't spray the bottom of the tailgate either. Which IMHO, is a pretty crucial portion if you are ever dragging things in and out of the bed. No idea why they don't cover that part as there is plenty of space and no fitment issues at all. I had to roll on some bed liner after I dragged my floor jack out and realized it wasn't covered, scratched the bottom section up real deep.

I have the DIBL that came with the XLT package. I bought the Ford mat with my points and it dropped right in. It is a bit big and not a perfect fit but close enough, doesn't look bad. I tried to trim that tuff a** mat but it is too thick and I did not want to hack it up. The bed is covered with a roll up cover anyway.

I got a $40 rubber floor mat from home depo and cut it in to fit. Nothing will slide around.

There are some great idea’s for a bed mat on this site and yours is right up there. I just bought some 24” X 24” Interlocking Foam Mats from Lowes and cut them to fit. I didn’t put anything on the tailgate yet, but I have a long piece of cardboard that I put things on and slide it in as not to damage the tailgate. Inexpensive solution for me at $20, and keeps my knee's from getting torn up when I have to crawl in.

I wonder if you can cut that floor mat with a jig saw as opposed to using a utility knife ?
