Mercury sw:

Lighted override sw:

White LED Light - note these are "Marine Grade":

Wire - need at least 2 of these:

I had to hot glue a round magnet to the mercury sw to anchor it to the inside of the tailgate where the existing wiring harness comes in - seems to work well and no moving parts. The 2 LED lights will fit in a hole that has a rubber plug in it above the 2 flex bed plastic access panels (XL), however, I could not get to the back side to use the mounting nuts that came with the lights so I had to just use some aggressive 3M double sided tape for these lights. When the mercury sw closes with the gate down and if the lighted sw is also closed, the 2 LED light are on and can then be turned off with the sw, if desired. Note they are only on as long as power is available to the aux 12V ports in the bed.

Nice. I like the light coming on with just opening the tailgate.

Where did you mount the trigger switch. Can’t tell from the video.

Tilt switch is placed in the bottom opening of gate where existing wiring harness goes through.

Think it worked out well for some light when gate opens. Can be shut off by lighted switch.
Love the ingenuity on this forum!

Do you think a single light would be bright enough to be worthwhile? I might be interested in doing a single light with just the lighted switch if it was bright enough

It could be, really depends on the quality of the light and the lumens. The 2 small lights I have do not light the front of the bed at cab so much. I just needed something to load / unload at the tailgate.

I was just thinking of using it mostly for light under a tonneau cover, so maybe it will be enough since it would reflect a fair bit. Worse case, I could always wire in a second
