Another part of this equation (which I know is not the subject here).
Is the little Rug Rats ;)
Don't stay stationary and are darting around... So, seconds can count.. 😬

Yeah, and they don't always stay standing - bending over to pick up a penny or whatever in the parking lot and they get real small real fast!

9 times out of ten I pull into a spot and pull forward so when I go to leave I'm driving out forward so I can see everything better. Then I don't have to worry about some little kid being behind my truck and I hit them and then I damage my truck. Oh, I mean and then the poor kid gets hurt. Yeah that's what I meant.
I try to back in as often as possible with my truck. But even when I do that, two F150 trucks raised higher than hell seem to park next to me on both sides, so I still can't see crap when I pull out.

This thread makes me think of a new product idea. Transparent tailgate. Except I'm not sure you can even see the tailgate in the Maverick. I honestly don't know - I use the camera so I've never really studied my rear view mirror field of view.

I use all three. CP360, camera, mirror. And approaching 70, my head is on a swivel looking for what I missed. And I still backup slowly, so whatever I missed can jump out of the way while cursing "Who gave that blind old Boomer a license!"

My family gets mad that I use the camera. I always respond Do I look like an owl?
There is no way for me to see everything behind me. This is also why I back into parking spots. People like to complain about that too.

28'-30' from the bumper
You can barely see the top of a average 42 in child's head using your rear view mirror. Nothing seen in the side mirrors.

40' from the bumper. Slight driver side biased thus visible in the driver's door mirror.

So true. They are so unpredictable.
Thankfully, the backup camera fix is available.
🙏 Hopefully it'll work.

Remember using your rear view mirror, 28+feet from your tailgate is where you start to see the very top of a 42" child's head.

Is that 28' with a tonneau cover? I know mine sits up at least 1.5" at the rear. Probably depends on driver's height too, but still a long way from the rear before a standing child is out of the danger zone.

But how much is the lip on your tailgate also blocking?? I show 1/2" between the top of the tonneau cover and the top of the tailgate lip.
