I've had a couple of AWD Escapes as company vehicles.

I've damaged a tire in the past which was deemed to be unrepairable due to picking up a nail close to the sidewall. All 4 tiers needed to be replaced to comply with the AWD Feature requirements. I remember thinking I was glad I didn't have to pay for new rubber all around ( I think it had around 10K at he time ).

Right now I have tire leaking with 25K on the vehicle. There's a chance all 4 will need to be replaced.

Does anyone know if this is a requirement for the AWD Maverick? It may help me decide what to order when the window opens.

Yes, otherwise you could damage your PTU or dif. I have seen sever blown PTU's due to mis-matched tires.

I've been told by Discount Tire that tires should be replaced in pairs at a minimum. Left and right front tires or left and right rear tires. Tread needs to be the same on the axle. You shouldn't have to replace all four but if you have a lot of mileage and tread wear you might consider it. 25k sounds like half the tire is already used up. Your choice but always in pairs.

Thanks all. I guess " significantly worn " is the key here and open for some interpretation.

To the tire shop I was working with on the Escape, that means alway replace them 4 at a time. However, I can see where they may have a motive to take that stance.

If’s you’re worried about future problems I know that at discount tire you can take your new vehicle and buy the “road hazard insurance” on the factory tires for replacement.

That's a good suggestion. I'd hate to pick up a sharp off the road ( seems like tires are almost never repairable these days ) and be out a $800-1000, or whatever, for a new set of four.

I had it happen on my company car.
