What about a kit to drop the tailgate from inside the cab? I assume lariat has electronic locking tailgate, so why not a kit that ties into that wiring with an actuator to the latches. Hit unlock 4 times in a row fast and the tailgate opens.

You do realize why the truck costs about 2/3rds of the average new car sales price, right?

He’s trying to mod his vehicle. I’m sure he realizes the price of the truck and is looking to see if anyone has experience making or installing this kit.

It would have to include a soft/slow release mechanism for safety reasons. I know of a family that lost a 2-year old son when a truck tailgate slammed down on his head!

That's a given. I've got a scar above my eye from a tailgate falling on me at 5 years old.

And they are SO cheap to implement, I don't know why that's something they thought of skimping on. Luckily, for $30 and 10 mins of your time you can rectify that. One of the best mods I did on my Ram.

What problem does this solve? If you have a hand free to push that button, you have a hand free to open the gate.

Also, what exactly are you trying to do? Just a popper-style release and a soft-open so it doesn’t slam down, but with no way to automatically close? Or actuators that can open *and* close it?

I have the camper shell so I couldn’t use either of these scenarios, but on a truck this small I’m not sure what doing either of them would help in real world use. And I actively *dislike* the actuator scenario because I find them slow and annoying (we’ve got a Rav4 Prime with the power lift gate and I’d much rather it be fully manual).

Last 2 cars I have had you push a button on the dash with the car in park and the trunk opens. One completely opened via springs QUICKLY and violently lol.

I intend to install a hard trifold tonneau so I want something as close to the trunk function I'm used to as possible. Just want the tailgate to fall slowly by itself so I can use the back of the bed like a trunk and only need 1 motion to open the trifold.

I would close the tailgate myself when done. No power closing desired

I use my trunk often. I will miss a trunk that works to keep rain out of the trunk and off me while open. Very useful.

Its not unreasonable, I just don't know how specifically to use Ford parts that will fit to make it work. The Santa Cruz does that. To give a visual, this is what it looks like:

Sometimes the thoughts of you twelve year olds blows my mind. It's a truck. A low price truck. Not a car, not a $50000 dollar truck. And I know some of you loaded it up. But it still is not a 50000 to 80000 dollar truck. Get over yourselves.

Off topic but tailgate assists suck. When I want the tailgate open I don't want to wait for a dampener. I taught my daughter at a young age how to
open a tailgate; If she gets hit, her fault

You mean a damper. A dampener would be something that gets you wet.

Outside of that, I agree.
