I don't see this turnaround being so easy for manufacturers. Cars and the engines that power them are planned years in advance.
Stop/ Start disable doesn't require an engine change. In the case of the Maverick, anyone with Forscan and every dealer has the capability (but perhaps not the will, although now maybe they do) to easily change the Auto Stop/Start function to default to Off.
That way it doesn't need to be turned off every time a driver gets in the car and it can be turned on when it might actually do some good.

The problem people have is it defaults to On, and stopping the engine for an immediate go is not a feature, it's stupid. It doesn't help anything.

You don't need years of planning to make a minor software change, and mid cycle refreshes are incredibly more intensive that eliminating a function many people don't want.

To eliminate the capability entirely, software change and a button delete is all it takes.
Years of planning... Nope.

Where stop/start really makes sense is in a hybrid, as the vehicle constantly transitions from electric power to fueled engine power.

Every mechanical device ever invented by man has a given number of life cycles. Sometimes these life cycles are so great that very few ever encounter the limits. General aviation is a good example; airplanes of the sixties were never expected to be in use seventy years after initial sale yet their main spar fatigue life makes most of them safe. So of course, every time the start stop function is activated it subtracts life from the starter. But let's assume the fatigue life of the starter is so high that we will never have to deal with the premature failure, but what about the drop in oil pressure every time the engine stops? Those in the know understand that startup is when most wear occurs. Don't be fooled into believing that if the manufacture does it, it must be ok, they are under extreme pressure to meet government regulations.

Now a question, when I bought my Maverick there was a menu option to disable start stop which is now gone. why? Also, can anyone explain the rational for the steering wheel restart? If I pull up to a stop and the engine shuts down all I need to do is turn the steering wheel in either direction
just beyond free play and the engine will restart and continue running until I pull away. WHY?

Also, I would like to state a personal preference, make all these drive aids buyer options. I so wish I could buy a vesicle without ABS, traction control, stability control and all the other nannies. For all those who want them great, you should have access to them, but why should I be forced to pay for them. I have a 2008 Mazda with a manual trans and no active driver aids, would love to have an up-to-date performance sedan but simply cannot buy into the complected intrusive driver aids.

There is no downside to ABS worth mentioning... in certain edge cases locking up the wheels stops you slightly faster... but you also have no steering (and flat spots on your tires 😆). I have a carb'd vehicle without ABS btw... fuel injection and ABS would be big upgrades.

traction control, stability control and all the other nannies
TC, ESC, A-S/S, Lane keep/assist, can be turned off with a button press typically... in fact I'm hard pressed to think of nannies that can't be disabled at will.

Of course most can be turned off but I am still paying for them. Perhaps I should give some background. Started as a motorcycle snowmobile mechanic in the seventies, top technician from US Suzuki. Raced MX, road raced a Kawasaki EX500, Auto Cross and Time Attack with autos, award for the road racer I built, eight ASE certs , can inspect anything that rolls in NYS, private pilot with a small amount of aerobatic training and successfully built and flew a small single place kit plane. I understand why so many may want these aids but they intrude on the way I want to use my vehicles. Just make them an option. I truly have no problem with them as an option. On my last track car I had put a reminder on the steering wheel to turn off the traction control before entering the track as it could not be turned off on the fly and absolutely gutted performance the moment I started to slide.

Many of you will likely find out how expensive all of these wonderful electronics are when they fail. Finished my career as a fleet mechanic, so many electronic failures. Great when the work but the truck is dead in the water when they fail. Let me give one, and I must stress this is just one of many. Our bucket and digger trucks had Allision transmissions, fantastic units. But, they were controlled with a touch pad, if that failed the truck was dead where it stood, if the problem was traced to the TCM a worksheet had to be completed which was then sent to the dealer for programming. All of this tech looks so good in the Broshears and is in fact very useful until it fails and one must pay for repairs. I have spent a lifetime which includes much instruction, track time and competition to improve my driving skills and I don't need some algorithm aimed at the unskilled masses intruding on my driving.

I agree with some of what you said, HOWEVER it these electronics that allow us to get the HP and Milage that we get. even after doing 3 cams and a set of heads and retuning my LS2 powered Covette to where it puts down 500 HP to the rear wheels in cruise control I get 23 MPG

Well I had a gift card and got the device for $45, I just about had myself trained to remember to turn it off automatically when I started it, but experience with the corvette and CAGS(1st to 4th) I decided to get it, it is a very high quality piece! not just a few wires like CAGS was,. Installation on my 2025 was very easy. I had a security screw instead of the 7 mm headed screw in the video so I just bent the guard out of the way and them bent it back after the install. In which a small pair of channel locks helped greatly(6 inch) works as shown!

The start stop in our Subaru is very annoying since it has to crank and it shakes on restart, and shakes when it shuts off again.
My Mav Hybrid rolls away on battery electric power and silently, only starting ice if i’m racing a Prius ! LoL
So its very nice to have A S S , gas ,or grass, nothing goes for free 😆
