So CA, FL and Texas are the order leaders? Shocking given that they are the three most populous states.

Santa Cruz will be very popular and will sell alot riding on the popularity of something new and fresh.

With that said, the Maverick will also sell like hotcakes and will also have the fleet volume sale.

Santa Cruz may be popular in great part because of the lack of availability of the Ford Maverick. Remember the Suburu Baja? https://www.hotcars.com/why-subaru-baja-complete-disaster/

Ford ate Suburu's lunch with the Ranger costing less and with better mpg. This story is about to repeat in my opinion.

Is there a market for small trucks? YES!!! The market will basically be defined in 2022-2023 of who is willing to wait (for a Maverick) VS who can afford to, and is willing to pay more (for a Santa Cruz).

The Florida/Texas line, if I may take liberties from the F/G Line country music folks, are 2nd and 3rd after California in pre-orders for Maverick. Even Californians East of the San Andreas Fault likely are a high percentage out west. The base market is just people who wanted a reasonable little workhorse and commuter all along.

But sure, us rednecks are gonna save the planet while we're at it.

According to the Maverick trainer I spoke to on Aug 13, California and Florida are ordering more Hybrids while Texas is going for the 2.0 Ecoboost.

Love to see his data.

WE all would love to see all their data wouldn't we. Data is on a need-to-know basis....why would we need to know? What other product data do you wish to know? Have you inquired about the amount of oatmeal going to California, Texas and Florida and which state prefers Instant over original?

WE know the gas prices in California are higher, and there is a large retirement community in Florida(both wealthy and fixed income), We also know that Texas loves trucks and has lower gas prices.

Only asking with respect to second hand information for credibility of the trainer' comment. We love trucks down here in part because they're useful for the hard unglamorous work of refining gasoline for consumption all over the country. We also have huge metropolitan areas, young educated people, many retirees, and care about our country and planet. No offense intended.

Price is the ONLY reason I can consider buying this vehicle. I was even able to add a few options (2.0, 4k tow, bed extender) and still come in under budget.

Good job by Ford, and I don't care how long I have to wait.

For me it was a perfect choice. I ride alone 90% of the time but like the flexibility to haul 4. From time to time I need to haul a few things like an air compressor or an appliance. I am currently getting about 13.4 miles to the gallon. I definitely wanted heated seats because the winters bother me more now here in central PA. AWD is a must for me to handle the normal snowfall and such but I am not going to be out driving in a foot of snow anyway. My fairly loaded XLT with all of packages is coming in a little over $30k. I really wasn’t planning on buying a vehicle but the Maverick checked so many boxes and the price was too good that I ordered one. I am not an impulse buyer by any means but the positives outweighed the negatives by such a large margin….well my Alto blue AWD XLT is scheduled for the first week of October and I am thrilled.

Sorry if it sounded like I had taken an offense, I didn't. A trainer works for FORD and has inherently more info than the dealer. Information is given to dealers so they can react and present selling points and such when needed. My background is this, I use to work for Fisher Body Div of General Motors. My MBA is in Marketing and Management with post grad work in Advertising. So I knew what questions to ask but at the same time respected his position. He went out of his way to show me the car, I WAS NOT GOING TO GRILL HIM ON DEALER INFO.

But

1. we can't expect a manufacturer to give more info that can be digested.
2.How will they know what info who wants out of all the info they have.
3.How much of that info will help competitors if all info is divuldged to everyone?
4. etc

I think the fleet market for the Maverick is being vastly underestimated. I realize the bed is on the small side, but when you're getting 40mpg, I think small businesses will make it work.

The example that I keep going to is the exterminator in my town. They run like 5 or 6 trucks, and it's always colorado work trucks. Now compare that to the Maverick. FWD (I'm in the north east, so RWD wouldn't work), 40mpg and an MSRP of $22k? You can damn well bet they'll figure a way to get their equipment to fit. Now multiply that by thousands of small businesses across the country and I think Ford will wind up selling a lot more than they're anticipating.
