Having had a dog take out the windshield in an emergency stop once, I would lean towards those who say secure the dog in the rear seat. Dog was OK but still it could have been much worse.
He doesn't like riding in the car and get carsick if we spend more than a few minutes in there. He only goes for short local rides to the vet and that's about it. But he stomps on the buttons every. single. time.

My wife is probably the bigger offender in the "accidentally hitting the mode buttons" category. Had the mav over a year and she still doesn't know where the cup holders are.:oops:

My dogs are well behaved and stay in their place. They don’t shed either.

Chulo loves to ride, the wind at his face & nostrils. He'd stomp on the window lock button & roll windows down sometimes. Other than that, no concerns. We've cruised in the Mav once since I picked it up (month ago). He didn't manage to stomp on the mode buttons but it was immediately apparent that I would need to protect the hard plastic door panel before we cruise again. I can see him stomping mode buttons too & would

LOL!! I forgot about the "stomping the window button" thing. I had to set the child locks on my old car to keep our old dog from letting himself out. So far so good in the mav but thanks for the reminder!

My dog has a bad habit of stepping on the buttons and changing drive modes, turning various functions on or off, etc.. It's a terrible place to put those buttons and it would be nice to be able to cover them with something that prevented casual contact. I was thinking a plastic cover that slides over the buttons with holes in it so you could still push them. Am I alone in thinking this should be a thing?
Man, I can hear the opposing attorney now: "Negligent driving, allowing uncrated dog free reign in the front seat. I rest my case." To quote Archie Bunker, "Ipso Fatso."

I never said he did it while the vehicle was moving. Usually it happens when he jumps up into the vehicle. I put him in the back, he climbs into the front and steps on the buttons in the process. But clearly you understand why I want a cover for them.

I think I'd go with a 3d printed cover of some kind. I barely ever use those buttons.

That would be perfect. With holes over the buttons so you can access them without removing the cover. I've dropped stuff and activated buttons. Fortunately the computer won't let you damage anything but it's a PITA.
