Likewise also potentially interested in trading although I also found some pretty well priced aftermarket rims so may just go that route.

I ordered a Lariat, and honestly, I would do the same trade.
Not because I like the look more, but because 17” are cheaper to replace and specially bcos are gonna give you a more comfy ride (more rubber) vs the supposedly cooler look and more sporty ride of an 18” tire, who nobody is looking for in a truck
Yes, agreed. Though I have come to like the lariat wheels more after seeing them in pictures and could give or take them. I’m not terribly worried about it either way now. Sure, I’d prefer the XLT wheels….

Hope you don’t mind if I hijack your thread for a tire related question…
would an 18” tire mean my Maverick would gain an inch clearance over having a 17” tire?

You will gain 1/2 inch of clearance.

No. It’s depends on the tire size not on the rim size. The 225 diameter tires give you the same ground clearance on both the 17” & 18” wheels. The fx4 only has 17” rims available but allows you to select 235 tires which will give you the highest ground clearance(.3” higher)
As others have mentioned 17” is better for off-road because you will have a larger sidewall with the same size tire as an 18” wheel.

I think I'd trade... But that depends on my hybrid being built

Not if the overall diameter of the tire is the same.

You will not. They are effectively the same diameter tires, just different aspect ratios (65vs60)
The question was an 18 inch tire vs a 17 inch tire. Not 18 inch wheel vs 17

You’re on the right path but it’s .5” overall difference and a .25” increase in ride height.
225/65/17 is 225mm (tire width) x .65 (sidewall height is value is % of tire width)= 5.75” x 2 (both sides of the sidewall) + 17” (wheel diameter) = 28.5”
The 235/65/18s have a 29” overall diameter.
