Anyone have hand calculated MPG over a considerable distance going 70, 75 or 80ish MPH?

Vast majority of my commute is eventually going to be freeway speed 30+ miles. If it would make me get the friggin thing faster, I may change to an eco if people are getting far down into the low 30s. Fuelly is hard to gauge because you don’t really know what kind of driving a person is doing.

I did a few hundred miles of driving on I-80 and I-90 through the Rockies and got 34 MPG. It seemed like going from 75 to 80 was pretty bad for mileage, so if you're willing to go 75 or 70 I think you could do better. If you're not driving in the mountains and against the wind I think that would help as well.

I do a reasonable percentage of freeway driving in my hybrid. I have stuff in the cab or bed 30% of the time. I'm consistently getting 40.3mpg.

That is amazing mileage. I've made several 400 mile trips between NC and OH (winter weather) and I consistently get 32-33 going 73-75mph with cruise on much of the time. I expect the MPG's will get better though as the weather warms.

I have a 66 mile commute of which about 50 is highway and I’m getting 39-43 mpg on eco mode. I drive about 70 mph on the highway though occasionally a bit faster. I put 100k miles on a Malibu hybrid and, so far, the truck is getting better mileage than my Malibu did. I expect it to improve further as I learn to drive more efficiently and as the weather warms.

I have over 2000 miles atm and love the Mav and my MPG, That said

I did a 250 mile round trip a couple weeks ago and averaged 28 MPG doing 80-85. Filled up before and after the trip. my hand calculations where with in .2 of what my dash said.

This got me wondering so I did a small informal test.

My normal daily is 40% rural, 40% highway and 20% city. with 38.4 MPG average so far at 2k.

Out front of my place there is a 5 mile stretch of county road that is 5 miles long, pretty level with a couple small curves.

I did the round trip at 60, 70 and 80 MPH 3 times each with the following results

80 28.2 mpg
70 33.1 mpg
60 37.4 mpg

I am a Realtor and when I am showing homes in town I can get 50+ mpg

The hybrid is built for city driving not lots of highway.

Do I wish I got better on the highway? Yes
But 28 mpg at 80-85 sure beets my Tundra's 17 mpg.

My commute is 48 one way Monday-Friday. Just got my Hybird Lariat last weekend. My Maverick had 35 miles on when I got it (plant must’ve did some testing) Put about 100 miles on first weekend. First weekday commute I did multiple routes, all had some Hwy driving. Each trip showed 50 to 52 MPG on the dash. 620 miles on the first tank. Tank held 14 gallons. Overall MPG on the dash showed 44.7 MPG. Actual MPG was 44.2 MPG.
Very impressive and very pleased.

I have the EB so it doesn't really apply but I have been getting 31-32 lately. From the factory I got usually around 29 so maybe the warmer weather is helping I don't know but now I get around 520 miles per tank. This is mostly driving Around I understand 55 to 65mph. Also cruise controls KILLS my has milage so I stopped using it which could be the other cause. I saw my MPG dropp to almost 25 when I had a long highway trip and used it. I also just rolled over 10k miles not too long ago

My only extended highway driving involes a drive from DFW to OKC and back. Had a gusty headwind (15-25mph) both directions and got 33-34mpg. Would probably be 38-40 had that been a tailwind. My daily commute is about 20 miles of highway and 30 city, and I routinely average 42-44mpg.

I get the same as you, and was quite surprised.
I find it's pretty sensitive to elevation change: mileage to Vegas from San Diego (up a couple thousand feet) was 3+ mpg less than the return trip.

Your best mileage on the highway is going to be 55 to 65. Once over 65 it will start to drop off noticeably. Eco versus normal mode won't matter that much if you speed is steady and have a light foot but also don't waste a lot of time getting up to steady speed. Those that drive like an old lady very slowing accelerating up to 55-65 are actually using more gas in the end. On the Eco models, the turbo starts kicking in above 1800+ rpm so running the engine at or above that rpm will burn more gas but that corresponding speed varies varies based on the ECO model-- 2wd,4wd,4wd-4k since the gear ratios affect the speed at a certain rpm in high gear. Most ECO owners probably don't notice much difference in gas mileage between ECO and normal if they drive with a light foot at steady highway speeds.

22 AWD my Mav’s computer is showing 33.7mpg for the last 24K miles. 85% highway, 55-65 mph occasional 70-75 mph. One trip of 605 miles computer showed 38 mpg and hand calculated came out to 37.6 mpg. I’ve had several short trips of less than 300 miles where I was pushing 40mpg. Lowest full tank was around 29 mpg.

What route? My NC to OH trip is 625 miles. This was last month between Wytheville, VA and Mebane, NC. I drive Greenville, NC to Akron, OH. I always use ACC and slippery mode.
