I have yet to meet an engine that it is worth it.

Mobil1 is damn good, and a lot cheaper than AMSOil or Royal Purple.

5 qts of Mobil1 5w30 Full Syn is $29.47 after tax at my local Walmart.

I buy RP in 5 gal (20 qt) containers. The most recent container cost me $129.33 after tax - or roughly $25.87 per 5 qts.

So for me - RP is actually cheaper and a superior oil.

Being a Jet Technician for more than 35 years and growing up working at a Ford Dealer. Oil changes are the most important thing for your vehicle. I've always use OEM Motorcraft oil filters and The correct specification of oil plus the correct Ford recommended SAE weight. I prefer FULL Synthetic. I change it every 5K miles. I've never had A ford engine issue. My first Ford at age 16.

A company called Blackstone is pretty famous for being one of the best. They are $35 for the OA but most people opt for the added TBN, so $45. They will send you the sample kit for free and you pay for the testing. It's all really simple. Even if you took your vehicle to the dealer to get your oil changed you could ask them to grab a sample for you and I'm sure they'd have no problem doing it and are likely used to it (or most do it themselves as well). It's a very popular thing now days. Instead of just guessing how long your oil change intervals should be, this is the best way to know if you are stretching too far or not far enough.

I drove it nice for the first month. I did my first oil change at the dealership at 2500. Then used the oil minder for oil changes. I use Mobil one a 910 Motorcraft filter from Walmart. 29.97 and 8.44 for oil and filter. I did notice when I did my own oil change only half my skid plate bolts were reinstalled at the dealership. I justvdod my 4th oil chang and I have 23k. No issues. Using any quality oils and filters is never an overkill. Go for it.

Amsoil is top notch stuff. In fact that’s all I run in my ecoboost. Especially anything direct injected. They are able to pass the wear tests with a seriously high fuel content.
So it’s a small sample size but I have ran my dad’s 3.5 ecoboost at 15k change intervals on it. Truck was a work truck. Made 390k miles and still ran when he sold it. My 15 3.5 I did it every time the oil monitor told me to. I had 374k on it when it got totaled ran perfect. That truck was highly tuned and was 500whp with meth. It’s still lasted through all my drag racing trailer towing, and work. My wife’s 2.0 edge had been on amsoil since 500 miles. It’s also been tuned for e30 fuel since first week I owned it. It currently sits at 189k.
It seems to be a very good oil. To me worth the price because I haul some serious heavy stuff and being tuned for more boost I work them very hard. It’s not let me down yet.

I guess I am in trouble. I use the low end Walmart pit crew or the 0Reillys cheapest special they have that is out there. I thought oil was only put out by two major companies and repackage or labeled into the Big Name brands. The 05 Ranger hasn't had a high price oil change.( I do Change her oil every 12 months weather she needs it or not)

Any opinions that do not have an oil analysis attached are just opinions.

I fully believe you can go 250,000 miles with 25K oil changes...with any good oil. Certain vehicles are better set up to do that ( like larger oil capacities). But I will be doing oil analysis occasionally to PROVE the engine oil is holding up.

From what I see in oil analysis testing, there is almost no difference in so called high end oils ( like Amsoil and others) compared to Mobil One for instance. This is based on measurement of wear particles from samples of the same engines over time.

There is NOTHING wrong with running Amsoil, Liquid Moly, etc. They just cost more. Money you won't get back compared to what you pay for easily available full synthetics like Mobil One, Castrol Edge, Pennzoil, etc. Oil related wear or failure is not why most cars end up in the junk yard...........

So many nonsensical opinions. Amsoil is a decent product. Wildly overpriced. Motorcraft oil filters are decent, nothing special, at least inexpensive.

I stock up on Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1 whenever there are rebates. The effective cost ends up being $3/qt when purchased in 5 quart jugs at Walmart. Oil filters, whether Motorcraft or SuperTech of Purolator are $6. So yes a quality oil and filter change is $24 if you don't like throwing money away.

There's no need for break-in oil changes or 5000 mile OCI or whatever other schedule you want to make up. Full synthetics don't need that nonsense. But do whatever you want for 'peace of mind'. Just spare us the 'you must' preaching.

It can easily be done even with full synthetic. Walmart super tech full syn 5w 30 is $16.50 for a 5 qt bottle right now. Add in the cost of a filter and you are at or actually under $45 if you do it yourself. But you have to save the labor costs by doing it yourself.

We are at an unusual place with motor oils - the cheap house brand full synthetics from walmart, amazon or costco meet the ILSAC 6 spec and are worlds better than the best dinosaur oils of the 1980's and 90's. The base oils are better, the additive packages are better and you really can't go wrong with them. But people still think in terms of 90's oils because that's what their experience tells them.

You posted, Get your oil analysis done regularly and then you can choose your interval. For the first couple changes, do 3-4k and send in the oil analysis each time rhetorical) that adds 45$ to every oil change, my results below show I can do an extra oil change for every 1 that you do.

OK little petey, didn't mean to hurt your fragile ego. Enlighten us on what you do with the data you get back, do you change engines? Bearings wear in, piston rings try to wear on cylinders, other than pretending you are some elite gearhead who bought an entry level pick-up. What do you get besides feeling you are better than anyone?

I find it alarming that you don't see the benefit in oil samples. Never said anyone HAD to do them, but acting like they are not beneficial or that being able to actually understand the data isn't helpful is just idiotic. Acting like a smell test and a guesstimate on intervals is "smart" and condescendingly ignoring data from analysis information is next level boomerisms. So yea, if understanding the data makes me an elite gear head, I'm cool with it. Better than whatever you are coming in a thread acting like some oil whisperer just because you don't want to pay for samples. Do you then... just stfu about it.

At least I don't act like I can smell it, taste it, and rub it between my fingers for any actual information like it's some ancient wisdom. If you don't want to pay for samples - don't. Continue on your guesstimate adventures and enjoy your process. I'd like to know the contents of what is running through my engine and if it's safe to increase intervals - not just guess and think I know better.

Oil threads are always this way, especially the ones who believe they need Amsoil to make a vehicle great again... But I haven't seen anyone saying that someone else needs to do anything yet. Suggestions were made on how to approach an oil analysis. That's all. If you read their disclaimers that's exactly what they want to get a base.
