There’s a lot of hype on oil, they all seem to think they are the best. I’m not even sure about synthetic oil even thought I use it in the Lexus. My old 2002 F250, 7.3 diesel has never seen a drop of synthetic and I use whatever diesel oil happens to be on sale. Change every 5000 and chugs along just fine. I guess testing oil is fine, either through a lab or experienced fingers. Never done either one and haven’t blown a motor in 57 years of driving.

Regular maintenance and careful driving will take you far. I wouldn't know what to do with the results of an oil test anyway. Change the oil? 5k intervals and never worry again.

What really amazes me is that vehicles are major expenses for most people, yet so many are perfectly content never to do any preventative maintenance and drive like total idiots. Repairs ain't cheap.

We were looking for a used car last year and saw a bunch of cars with sludgy oil and all kinds of other problems indicating no preventive maintenance had been done at all - rust through, bald tires, squealing brakes, oil in the coolant, you name it.

Worse, a we saw people offer cash for these same vehicles without even test driving them, completely trusting that the vehicle would be fine. I guess there really is a sucker born every minute.

Oil analysis ( sending off a sample of your oil to a laboratory for testing ) is not as much about how good your oil is.....as it is to show the condition of your engine! THAT is where the money spent on testing is justified. As I have said before...buy (any) good oil and your engine will not have an oil related failure while you own it.
So....why test? As an example, one VERY important test result is how much coolant is in the oil ( if any). This is a early sign of a problem. Head gasket failing. Water to Oil cooler failing, etc. Finding this early can literally save the engine from major repairs costs and just as important unplanned downtime! Finding too much of a certain metal might tell the owner the main or rod bearings are failing. Fixable now, but later on would destroy a crankshaft. There are many examples.
I like to test because I want a comparison over the life of the engine in my case. They can and do test transmission, rear gear oils too.
