RE: Clean out carbon = good question, if in fact it does coke up. Word is you pay a bundle to have a mechanic blast out the carbon with walnut shells. I eat walnuts so I wonder if I will get a discount if I bring my own walnuts?

The 22 Mav EB and my wife's Lexus are the first turbo direct injection engines I ever owned. I sold the Mav EB when my 24 hybrid arrived - the 2.5L in the hybrid has SMPI so no issues there.

I am warming up to EV's without the maintenance of ICE's. When my hybrid runs on all electric it is so smooth and quiet.
Also it costs a little more money but they can get rid of the carbon problem with DI if they just add a port injector that squirts some fuel on the back of the valves every once in awhile I believe Toyota has done that? I guess they don't have a big incentive for it though as long as the carbon doesn't slow the engine down enough for needing a cleaning while it is under warranty.

It's been awhile and I figured we all need another Air filter thread - LoL -

Anyways I am @ 17k and the OEM filter is pretty dusty. Always been a KN fan but seems most folks are just not into that anymore.

What filter are the cool kids using these days ?

Cheers -
The cool kids are using K & N, but I prefer to keep my Mav mostly stock. I would recommend changing your filter more often if you are in such a dusty environment that you have concerns.

Ford is also adding it to a lot of the revised engines. The 3.5 got that also. Just a matter of time I’m sure thill that’s standard.

Millions of cell phone cases now being dumped every year into landfills - Only 9 percent of plastics being recycled. Not doing an awesome job - (
I hear you... But that is just one of many symptoms of over populating the planet. There would be 72% less total cell phone cases if the population stayed at 1 billion. "Everything" that ills the Earth today would be reduced by at least 72% We infest this planet, not coexist.

the newest gen of the 2.3l EcoBoost as well as the gen 2 3.5L and 2.7L all have dual injection. Though ford says the reason for dual injection is not for carbon build up.

I'm running K&N air filter and oil filter at the moment. I read alot of people saying they don't work or are to expensive. Other people live by them. No one has mentioned them blowing the motor, and after a few thousand miles since installing it, I have no complaints.
The one time I used a K&N filter, the following oil analysis showed excessive silica contamination (aka dirt). As I bought the filter at the K&N booth at a national car show, the rep did the oiling prior to install.

Assuming you ditched the K/N ?

I'm hoping with the 2025 mustang going to it, that it will trickle down to the 2.0 soon. I haven't researched to see if the other 2.3L went dual port in 2025, but it would make sense for all of them to at some point.

I think with Ford realizing they need to keep the ICE viable longer into the future, there's a good possibility of that happening.
