With as many vehicles like the Maverick having/getting undershield hairy cardboard - really thinking the time to spend money for this being useful has passed.
I'm guessing if you came in with a "I ran over ______ and now it doesn't drive straight or makes a noise", a real tech is looking - there would never be a returned vehicle with "our AI viewall saw nothing amiss".

Not even my dealer sent this email - Is AI really this much of a positive thing in the general public to be a selling point?

I saw this at a Volvo/Polestar (RIP ) dealer a few years ago, but I can't remember if it was for vehicle inspections or trade-ins, or both.

I have no issue with the technology they choose to use, but I think the motivation ends up being the same... "what 'potential issues' can I tell the customer they have, so I can write a service order I wouldn't have had otherwise?"

In other words, it is immaterial to me if cameras and AI can do a better job than Jethro in the service bay - the end result is still going to be separating an owner from their cash IMHO.

And I get that at certain stages of life, people either can't, or just don't want to get under their vehicles and look at things - but a jacked-up undershield is the easiest thing to notice, even just down on one knee. "Your time is valuable," they say - but it is obvious this is being implemented for the saving the dealership's time, and making them money.

One of the local Nissan dealers to me has this system setup. They seem to primarily use it as a service pre-inspection tool before they bring the vehicles into the service bays for other service. Basically a CYA for them if the customer complains of physical damage after the visit.
