They don't always crawl under the car, they bring a car jack, mostly travel in teams, many carry firearms, and can be in and out in 60 sec. or less. The demand for cat shields is huge, I can't believe some enterprising entrepreneur hasn't seized on this opportunity.
They don't work.

Mainly because anything you can afford can and will be cut off.

They don't care about damaging the product. They melt down the raw materials. If it comes off your car in 7 pieces, that's just fine.

Has anyone come out with an anti-theft plate for the aft cat on the hybrid? That seems to be kind of a big deal out here in SoCal. I’ve had to install them on all of the family Prius’s.
Just remove your hybrid badge from the tailgate.

Another post here said you can do it with dental floss.

Well yes, easy.

But is the hybrid more desirable than any other car or truck? Prius I think is targeted for easy access and high quality materials used. Not sure if the Hybrid Mav is any more susceptible or not.

Seems like very few cat theft reports in this forum.

Perhaps.

Yes, if there's no time limit, anything can be cut off; these thieves depend on a quick hit because sawing off a converter makes a lot of noise. It takes literally 1-2 minutes to jack the converter and be gone. If they have to cut through a 1/4" steel plate, they'll probably go on to the next car.

Consider the cost of a converter theft. If you have a high insurance deductible, your out of pocket can be hundreds of dollars. You can be without your vehicle from weeks to months waiting on new parts. I think there's a market out there for such a product.

There was a post a long time ago about a bunch of them getting cut out in a railyard. Before the customers got them. Caused many people getting their delivery delayed.

People on the Prius forums say the devices pose no real challenge to get off.
🤷🏻‍♂️

One poor girl had the security device cut off twice, less than a year apart.

Curious... How much is a cat even worth?

a frustrated cat thief, wonder what mischief he might turn to next?
They may as well try to take off the plate and steal it.
