Actually - no manuals gave the instructions we've had given here - they all said see the dealer. It sounds like you're running into a recent shift in Ford's security policy. For the 2026 model year, Ford has effectively removed the Customer Self-Service programming feature for Intelligent Access keys on several models, including the Maverick.
While previous years allowed you to add a third key using two "admin" keys via the backup slot, the 2026 manuals now direct users to the dealer because the "on-board" programming sequence has been disabled in the vehicle's software to enhance security.
MyKey being the exception - which wasn't a normal "admin" key and didn't use those instructions we've seen.
So now it appears they are serious about seeing dealer - bummer.
