Hi,

I have a 22, and want to add wireless android auto/apple car play using one of the adapters from Amazon.

My question is does the adapter (usb-c) have to be plugged into the plug below the AC panel, or can it get power fron any outlet in thee vehicle to work?

Thanks!

It needs to be plugged in to the USB port below the HVAC control in order to send the signal to the head unit and get power.

I have the Motorola MA-1. It has a cord about 6-8 inches long and it is plugged into the usb port below the usb-c port on the left side. The tape that was supplied by Motorola was not strong enough to hold the dongle there so I used some 3M tape. I did not try it in any of the other usb ports.

I had the Ottocast 2 in 1, but the cord would slip out around turns and freeze the display. Motorola seems to be the best.

I prefer to use a cord since it also charges your device while driving. Android Auto/Apple Car Play seem to drain the battery, kinda sucks after a long drive and your phones on 15%.

AAWireless works with Android and iPhones. Also allows some developer settings to change screen resolution which enables things like the reporting on Google maps, and screen mirroring on Android.
Does need to be plugged into ports below the head unit.

I've had mine about a year with no issues.

I've had this one for a couple months and it seems to be working well. The cord is short but I'm fine with that because I stuck it right under the connection in the small storage area and you can hardly notice it. I had gotten a discount for $20 so it came out to about $30.

The two USB ports in the back will only charge. So you must use the ones in the front.

I have the Motorola 1A works adapter. I also have a usb-c adapter angle on it because I wanted a different angle to hide the unit's wire. It works in either plug. Currently, miner is plugged into the usb-c and it works exactly like it did plugged into the usb-a below it...

Thanks all for the responses, i might take the plate off and use some T connectors with a usbc plug to use an adapter. I did the wireless charger hack(seen on youtube) so trying to get away from cords.

I have been using the Autopro X. It is pricier than your standard dongle, but if you have a samsung for android auto, it also allows you to use DeX.

Be aware, wireless Android Auto is a battery killer! I have an adapter, but quit using it for that reason.
