CarPlay is my favorite feature of the Maverick....amazingly simple and intuitive to use and so effective with Google Maps and a flash drive for music. A friends $50K Lexus did not even have CarPlay as an option.
I understand why they want to get rid of carplay:
1) They want you on their own proprietary crap so they can spy on you instead of google and apple and don't have to pay licensing fees.

2) It actually does give them more flexibility in how to design their cars, as carplay looks pretty dumb when you stretch it out across a surfboard size screens, the icons become too big and its not really personalized for the vehicle theme.

So on little screens, there's really no consumer benefit to going away from carplay, but with Mercedes showing that this may be the future of dash designs, it makes sense:
Ford Maverick Ford will keep Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles merc

I am having an issue applying a Sync3 update-Worked fine before with USB now nothing really happens when I plug in the USB with the sync my ride folder- Have you had any luck with updating wirelessly ?
No luck at all, and I've got 5 bars of very high speed internet in my garage Wi-Fi connection. It has NEVER said there was even a software update available, even when the web site (and FordPass app) BOTH show one is available, and I confirm by looking at the truck's software levels that I need the update.

I've used the USB process every time. And the "log file" it says gets created, and that you're supposed to upload to let Ford know it was done? It has never happened on any of the four updates I've done. I called Support and talked with them for a 1/2 hour or so, and they agreed I had done everything right, and told me it would probably update the site "eventually" on its own - to give it 30 days or so... Well, it's been more than 30 days, and the FordPass app (and web site) still show that I've got that update that needs to be applied - the one that the truck gleefully reports IS the current version.

Jim which adapter are you using and do you do your updates through home wifi?
Just replied (at length) about my problems with updating firmware over wireless.

But my CarPlay adapter is this one, which Amazon shows is currently not available. That's a recent development, because I've recommended it to a few others, and it was available then. Maybe just a supply chain issue to get them back in stock.

Mercedes developed a lot of technology (and materials) that make our cars better / safer... But let's not credit Mercedes for the all-glass automotive cockpit that Tesla implemented long before Mercedes even considered it...

Interesting - Which S/W version are you on currently?

Sync 3.4.22251 is what the truck reports, and 3.4.21194 is what the Ford website thinks I have...

I wasn't claiming they invented it, but its the first pillar to pillar design I've seen. Tesla I thought always just put a rectangle in the middle, never pillar to pillar.

In any case, carplay was really meant for something iPad size and shape, but pillar to pillar designs that are long and skinny when they are seven or eight iPads long aren't really designed for that.

One of the other main reasons for connecting your phone was for an internet connection, but manufacturers want one now anyway so they can do over the air updates and tracking of vehicle data/errors and what not real time for the whole fleet, so if you have that anyway, why not have some android based thing that is always on and doesn't need you to connect your phone?

Good. I love Android Auto and my experience with manufacturer infotainment is very mediocre (Ford, GM; though Mazda's is decent). Like others, this is one of my favorite things about the truck.

The only reason manufacturers are pushing for the home-baked solution is $$$$, even when they know AA/Carplay is superior.

I finally got the update (3.4.22251) to install on the truck (via USB), but once again when it completed there was no XML log file written, so it could be updated and Ford would update the web site...

It won't take long before most (and for sure, Ford) car companies go the way of Tesla and GM when it comes to their screens. The real-estate is just too valuable, as well as having control over their offerings. What they say today is not necessarily what they will say or do in the future. You will always have the ability to use your iPhone or Android Phone in the car, and other work arounds will come up (aux. screens), but as much as someone may love their Apple Car Play or Android Auto, automakers will not cede the vehicle experience to a 3rd party once they have the ability to pull off the software in the future. GM is going to be using a modified android os so it is possible that you will be installing apps from a car app store, not unlike the apps on your phone today.

People are whining here about losing their Car Play or Auto without even having seen or experienced their replacements. Much ado about nothing. You will have choices, they will just be different than the choices you have today.

Oh and by the way, the "entertainment system" chosen and implemented in the Ford Maverick is one of the biggest weak points of the entire vehicle. What a disappointment. I'm hoping that the aftermarket comes up with some nice Plug & Play swap outs.

Well, I've lived with Chevy's "proprietary" system for a long time (2014 Impala, 2015 Silverado HD), and vastly prefer using Sync3 with CarPlay. The latter is night and day improvement. Even after owning it for 7 years, paying for map updates each time, that damned Nav system couldn't find my house on a rural road. And about half the time, when I got a phone call, it would "transfer the call" to the truck's system for everything except the audio - which only came out of the phone's speakers...

Tesla's system is OK, but there is a LOT of menu structure to learn. The one "positive" is that they seem to use the exact same menus on all their cars, so you don't have to re-learn the entire system if you "upgrade" your vehicle. My brother-in-law's Model S (purchased the first year they were sold) has the same menu structure and options as my buddy's 2022 Model S.

only when it works....which is sporadically for me.
I have a Jeep Cherokee and I lots of problems with CarPlay in it. I don’t know about a Ford but on the Jeep there is a reset that can be done to get it to work.
The final fix with the Cherokee was to buy a genuine Apple cord. Once I did that it works about 99% of the time.
Based on the Cherokee I decided to use an Apple cord the first time usoô
