Adding a Sub - Where to get input signal and why

2023 Hybrid Lariat with B&O system adding powered 8" powered sub under seat

I have read all over the forums about adding a sub.

My question is where to get the input for my sub, Most all threads say tap into the the Rear Left & Right speaker wires but on one thread on here:

I know the 2 rear speakers are at adult head level and can be too loud for adults sitting in the rear even at low volume levels. Tapping into the B&O sub speaker wires would seem to be more the frequency range you would think you would want to send to the sub and still maintain volume control to the Rear Left & Right speakers. I am just trying to follow the school of thought between the two different input sources.

Does this give flat Eq response to the rear speakers or to the sub or to all speakers.

I added a 10" sub behind the rear seat of my '25 Mav that doesn't have the B&O System. These Mavericks have bass frequencies trimmed out of the signal to the rear speakers, which don't make them good candidates to tap off of for a sub.

The flat eq mentioned in the post you referenced fixes that problem, and if I remember correctly, you can choose which pairs of speakers to set to a flat eq. (ie: front or rear speakers respectively).

I ended up tapping the front speakers for mine because I didn't want to mess around with Forscan, and overall I'm very pleased with the outcome. I think I would do the same even if I had a factory sub just to make sure I retain the full ability to tune it how I like.

The factory sub might be just fine to tap signal off of, someone else might know better, but I don't know where in the range Ford sets the crossover for the sub and it might complicate things if the sub you get is happier with a higher crossover than the stock sub.

Keep in mind that most under-seat sub/amp enclosures (Rockville is a good budget brand that I went with) come with a gain remote that you can mount somewhere in arms reach to control the bass level independently of the rest of the speakers if it is coming through too much or too little
