I purchased from Mabett a abs, lighted, low profile hood protector. I really like the way it looks. My biggest complaint is the instructions have you connect it to a constant hot and I want it to come on and off with the other lights. Can anyone point me to where I need to go with the power to make this happen....any help is appreciated.....

I’d think you would tap the wire to a a source such as the parking lamp or side marker lights. Theoretically, this would turn the lights on when these lights turn on; I’m sure someone else on here has done this previously.

If you don't have any luck, I actually will be receiving this product in a couple days and be doing a full review with installation as well.

Looks great! I'd be interested to hear a long term report on it. I almost pulled the trigger on this during Prime Days for $20 less than it is now. Is the video of the guy installing it on his Maverick on the Amazon product page (https://www.amazon.com/vdp/00eeef58...B0DT43MDWW&ref=cm_sw_cp_r_ib_dt_JzK7v9gmYoXmn) not useful for wiring it up? Looks pretty comprehensive. When you say it's a constant hot, you mean as long as the key is on the lights are on?

Thanx for the compliment.....Yes....the instructions have you connecting to the #6 fuse in the cabin fuse box ...and that is a constant hot as long as the truck is on....I don't really want to splice into the harness, would rather use a fused circuit.....but will splice if I have to. Hoping I can get help from some of you on this great forum!

Unfortunately the only way to do this is to either wire a separate switch into your cab (similar to a fog light toggle) to turn them on/off when you want, or you have to use a T-tap inline on the particular lights power you want them to activate with.

I didn’t do this with this particular product, but if you want the lights to activate with say, only DTR lights, you have to check the manual on your specific model to find out what wires activate whatever lights you want the hood lights to turn on with.

With my model the DTR lights have to be activated by the interior knob manually, otherwise they only turn on when the auto setting turns them on. I know some Maverick models DTRL’s are shared with the high beams on a switchback (DTR only when high beams are off)

For those questioning the product, I’ve had this installed on my Maverick for probably over 6 months now. It’s held up great with no issues. I initially had a couple issues with the order but Mabett was very helpful and willing to correct the issues each time - first order a piece was cracked from shipping, second order the fuse tap on the harness was the incorrect size fuse for where you tap the panel, and finally on the third order everything was perfect. Mabett was very responsive on here and through their amazon storefront.

Also just a handy tip, before you install the center piece with the lights, make sure all the light brackets are tightened down to prevent water intrusion. I added liquid electrical tape around each light housing to add some extra piece of mind.

Thank you for replying and giving such an indepth explanation. I'm just gonna leave them the way they are....don't want to splice into the factory wires if I can avoid it .....

No problem, I’ve done quite a bit of electrical between homes and vehicle accessories so I can usually anticipate predictable problems and nip it in the butt at installation. I wouldn’t worry too much about a T-tap if you want that functionality, you just have to be aware of water proofing it properly, which liquid electrical tape does an amazing job. I T-tapped a light strip to the tail lights that I installed under the tailgate about 4 years ago, have never had issues with it if that gives you a little comfort lol.

So both my lighted hood deflector and the auxiliary roof Lights are shipped and on the way.
been playing around with AI and thinking about color matching both of them to the truck. I think it looks good personally. Real good.
And yes, I know. The grill is incorrect, and it's not a tremor AI is still dumb.

I did something similar 4 years ago.

Tapping a parking lamp (side marker lamp lower corner of "bumper" ) is fast and easy and the way to go IMHO.

They come on when you unlock the doors which is nice. I don't see a reason to fumble around in a fuse box.

I have the same protector on my Mav. Followed instructions and connected to fuse behind glove box. It comes on with lights and goes off when lights time out. Works great for me.
