I went on a 3 hour trip to Paso Robles yesterday and it was really nice to have ACC. I get that some people are uncomfortable trusting automation (lane keeping, cruise control, etc). I'm sure Cruise Control had the same issues when it was introduced. But watching my friend demonstrate Tesla's auto drive, I figure ACC is way simpler and therefore more trustworthy. If the Tesla can stop at a light and when the light turns green turn left when traffic clears, then I expect since ACC is WAY simpler, it should be OK.Lucky for you, your Mav's don't have it.
It is wonderful for reducing road stress on longer trips and/or bad traffic. I've got the parts to add it to my XL.
I view it as an aid to driving. Like the original Cruise Control, it makes it easier but doesn't do everything for you. It's really nice that ACC matches the speed of the car in front of you. And if you click the turn signal, it gives you a little boost so you can get back up to speed as you pass a slow poke.
In crowded traffic it can leave too much room so other cars can jump in so I take control. And it can't anticipate that a car is going to jump in your lane (whereas, often, you can see the signals that that driver is going to).
But it's very relaxing that when it's safe, I can linger while looking at the scenery knowing that the car will let me know if I need to pay attention. I joke that I can drive by braille!
