Finally found a used '22 for a decent price. It's in Chicago and I'm in Kentucky. My only concern is they're are a few exterior paint scratches on the Alto Blue finish. I figure if I'd had the truck since '22 it would look about the same, but it does give me some hesitation. (There are a couple more that I didn't post)

$2k off for paint damage at least. Don't settle, negotiate.

Personally it would be a hard pass for me, but if it's not a big deal to you, then you should still make it seem like it is and negotiate the sale.

Scratches on a 2 yo car is not really a big deal, you will have them but I'd agree with Montana, use it to negotiate a better price.

How decent is that price?

I see two dealers in Louisville with Mavericks in stock. Bill Collins has six, and Byerly has three. One XL at Collins, the other eight are XLTs and Lariats.

Totally depends on how fussy you are. Even at a discount, can you live with scratches or will they be the first thing you see every morning when you head out the door and off to work? Or, are the scratches something that would have been on your truck by this time had you purchased it as
a new vehicle off the lot?

Me, I would constantly see the scratches regardless of the price and it would diminish the pride I take in caring for my vehicle. That's just me.

Honestly I’m not sure I’d do a used 22 at this point. Can’t you find one closer to you at least? I’d shop some more. How much they asking?

I'm a total functional guy and don't care too much about looks. That said, it's even more telltale that I'm 100% in agreement with negotiating this out of the price. Just because it's superficial doesn't mean you should over pay.

Again, as a guy who normally doesn't care about average wear and tear. The one on the front right gives even me pause. It looks big and deep. Is it down to the metal or is the reflection making it look worse?

I owned my previous car for 20 years and didn't care to wash it much, but it didn't have any scratches like that. Could be a sign of careless ownership.

Many would have addressed it with touch up at the very least. If this owner didn't care to address a scratch that is down to the metal then it may be an indicator they neglect other things you can't see. What's your overall read on previous ownership, was the vehicle taken care of?

Those smaller lighter ones are easy to buff out on your own. That gouge on the fender is looking like its down to the metal. But yeah make em take off some $$ for those. Good luck!

I checked with them earlier and they didn't have what I'm looking for in a used Mav. Some dealers list new pre-ordered trucks on their sites as if they are available.

Again I ask: how much are you paying for that used Maverick?

My purchased new and now ten month old ‘23 hybrid XL is still worth more used than what I paid for it. The private party value is $28,000 which is about $2,600 more than today’s MSRP for a brand new 2024 XL hybrid with identical options ($100 hitch receiver and nothing else).

It is your money and your decision so do as you please. But if you are paying within a few thousand of new MSRP in my opinion that is a very bad deal.

Maverick supply at dealers is much better now. You’ll still need to act fast. Inventory does change daily. I know for a fact that Collins does not list non-abandoned incoming orders as available.

Good luck to you.

[EDIT] I left out the destination charge on the ‘24. So a new ‘24 XL Hybrid is still about $1,000 cheaper than my used ‘23. Point being, you’re likely better off to find a new one and buy off the dealer at MSRP. Lots of people are getting them for MSRP these days.

$15K would be fair
Part of me hopes this was true, for some used car prices to return to reality like the old days. Ya-know, like 4 years ago 😂.

But then another part of me is like ... I bought new because the market was upside down and I'm not wanting to take that hit to my perceived equity.

I say perceived equity, because I know I'm likely keeping my car long enough that it won't matter. However, the market remaining inflated gives me a little comfort that I have a hedge against changing my mind as new info about durability arises each year.

Thanks! I am having second thoughts. Vz

Turns out on closer inspection the "big" scratch I circled is a reflection of a light post.

It''s got 15,600 miles and the offer is $28,500. That's the best price/mileage for my price range I've found. My requirements are XLT Hybrid with Lux package, less than 8K miles/year, OTD as close to $30k as I can get.

2024s are asking $32-35k at best.

All that said, and with the input from this group, I've about decided to wait and find a '23 or '24 closer to home at MSRP.

Part of my rush is I have a good offer on my '18 Chevy Colorado that beats trade anywhere I've seen. But the offer won't wait for long. I'll have to convince my "financial officer" that a few grand more for new is good money spent.

Thanks all!
