Only 21 states have Californian emission standards and require the gas particulate filter. Those who live in states that do not follow the Californian emission standards will have the 250 hp engine. The ones who reside in these 21 states will have 238 hp engine.
Is that true? I was under the impression from the way Ford was communicating the same power number everywhere that they were going to take a universal approach to it, but obviously it would be great if the other states had the freer flowing version.

Tim, the Ford Video Guy, stated this information in one of his Monday videos.

Is anyone concerned about the decrease in horsepower in the 2025 2L?
Freddie and I are amused, but not concerned as we ride past that particular dumpster fire.

Too much hp is never enough

Lol, my last Ranger had 143hp and weighed 200+ lbs, less.
My Mav feels like a "Rocket" compared to that..
Can't have TOO Much..

"Can't have too much horsepower?" It depends - you know - on what you value. I owned a number of used cars/trucks in my younger years, but my first "new" car was a 1984 Honda CRX HF. It made 58 horsepower but got over 40mpg in the city and mid 50's on the highway. Today, that equals or exceeds the best of hybrid vehicles.

Was it fast.... no - not really. But it didn't feel all that slow either.

This is why governments lean on the auto manufacturers with average fuel economy. They can make vehicles with higher fuel efficiency. My 1984 CRX had a carburetor. Imagine it with modern computer controlled fuel injectors and a hybrid power train. How much higher the MPG? And more horsepower as well.

Wish I had kept that car. Rather collectible now. But then I wish I had kept most of my younger year cars and motorcycles. Jeez but what the Kawasaki triples sell for now.....

I dream of a "Shelby" edition Maverick with a 5.0L in it.

How many of you are actually filling with 91 octane or higher to realize the full 250hp?

80% of you are probably already driving the 225hp version by filling with 87.

I thought Mav's were 50 state versions meaning they will all have the same engine and emissions. This, to facilitate inter-state sales and transfers for the likes of CarMax etc. who jockey inventory around. I could be wrong...

They added a particulate filter in the exhaust stream to the gas ecoboost version. Conceptually, the particulate filter is not unlike the particulate filters you see with diesel engine exhausts. It's an emissions thing.
Yes and apparently they are not required in Canadian builds, so no decrease for the North.

I just recently started filling regularly with 91-94 and it does make a difference.
