25 Hybrid with valve train tick

Thinking about trading our 24 XLT for a 25 Lariat loaded. Got the deal put together. Went out to check out the truck. Engine runs fine but has a noticeable tick, like a flat lifter. The 2.5 is shim in bucket, so no hydraulic lifters. Sales drove it to shop. No codes, but tech found a “pre-recall” for VALVE TRAIN INSPECTION. No further details on course of action, cause, or MY effected.

Was going to drive it home tonight, but…

At minimum, the top would have to be opened up. Not sure I’m comfortable with that on something that has 43 miles on it…

I personally would be skeptical too - I’d move on from that particular vehicle

My 23 hybrid has a an ICE tick since new. Dealer tells me that is common and nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't trust it. I have a 23 lariat hybrid and it's quiet and hard to hear it running sometimes.

The fuel injectors sound a lot like ticking valves. Very noisy... lots of EFI engines have this noise.

Since Ford deleted the engine cover for cost savings, I wouldn't be surprised if we have more complaints of engine noise and ticking sounds.

Our present 24 is quiet. That’s how I knew something was amiss.
