On the 2027 Maverick I would probably say no they aren't equipped yet.
Every 2027 model passenger vehicle sold in the United States will not automatically feature a mandatory interior infrared driver-facing camera, as a widespread federal "kill switch" or anti-drunk driving camera mandate by 2027 has been delayed. However, infrared driver-monitoring systems (DMS) are already common or standard in specific models equipped with advanced semi-autonomous hands-free driving tech.



Just one of the reasons I think I'll keep my 2023.

The NHTSA report did indeed say that, but that in no way prevented Congress from passing the law anyway.

The NHTSA missed its 2024 deadline for finalizing the rules, and released a statement this year that the technology is not feasible. As it stands, the rule is still in effect starting in 4 months. No official delay of the law has been produced at this time.

Was there something that said it quit reporting? As time goes on, I'm wondering if manufacturers will inhibit the starting of the car if the camera is blocked? And a report will be generated in some database somewhere that you are consistently blocking the camera?

I mean, potentially they could, but at the same time, if you pull fuse 11 disabling all the radio data signals, the copilot driving assists using the camera still work. They just cant upload the data tot he mothership.

The question will be what the fallback models look like. Can the car decide on its own if you can or cannot drive, or will that be up to the mothership? What if contact cannot be made? What if the camera has no clear signal? So far, the camera failure doesnt prevent anything, but we dont know how that will work with the mandate demanding cars prevent drivers who are not alert from driving, thats a level of intervention not seen yet.

The “law” is not going into effect in 4 months. Show your source showing a law was passed, including the definition of impaired driving, and when the law was voted/passed.

It's definitely not going to be available Ford in the US for the 2027 model year. Make no mistake. It is coming. Ford has some of the technology already.
It is mandatory in Europe AND FORD sells in Europe.
It's only a matter of time that it happens here.

Glance at your phone, your kids in the back seat, or the radio for too long, and the car will flash a warning light and sound an alert. Automakers have known this was coming for years.

Some cars already have direct driver monitoring systems (DDMS) that use infrared cameras and head- and/or eye-tracking technology that require drivers to keep their eyes on the road while active driving assistance (ADA) systems are steering, accelerating, and braking. DDMS is now mandatory in new vehicles sold in Europe, but not in the U.S.

I have that on 2 of my vehicles, it's part of Bluecruise. But it doesn't have kill switch tech that I'm aware of. I think they consider that a passive system.

Both the Expedition and Mach-E are located on top the steering column.
