From what I have managed to read, the windshield on the 2025 Mavs, at least the Lariat, have a "metal" coating on the windshield for sun protection. Since getting my 2025 it is clear that my EZ Pass transponder is not being read. Other websites suggested that this metal coating is the culprit. Supposedly there is a spot on the windshield that is left without this coating specifically for mounting toll transponders, but it is unclear where this spot is.

For those in the NY/NJ region who have EZ Pass, can you let me know where this magical spot is?

I am tired of getting billed by mail (and having to pay the extra fee for it) and having to go through the cash lanes.

I have mine mounted behind the right side of the mirror, just below the camera, and have no issues with it being read at toll plazas. - I highly doubt the windshield on the 25 is any different than that used in 23 for the Lariat models.

I’m gonna call bullshit on whoever gave you that advice.
I have a ’24 Lariat equipped with SoundScreen glass. My toll tag is mounted on the right side of the mirror just below and to the right of the camera. It works just fine.
I suspect you just have a bad EZ tag. Recommend you order a new one and make sure it is equated with the correct vehicle. Also check to make sure the credit card you have on file with them does not need to be updated.
Good luck, my friend.

Hmmm, my guess would be that the battery in your transponder coincidentally died and that's the issue

Windshields with a metallic layer always have a reflective sheen when you look at them at certain angles, and mine doesn't

The extra layer on Lariat windshield is a plastic sound absorber, not a metal

We just got back from a ~2700 mile trip with our '25 Lariat Mav from Iowa to NY and back. Our transponder is an Illinois I-Pass stand-alone transponder that's about 8 years old (so not a new battery by any means). But it's the same technology and fully compatible with any EZ-Pass states and has worked fine anywhere that EZ-Pass is used.

Since this transponder is shared between 3 vehicles it's not permanently mounted, but rather just tossed onto the dash up by the windshield in whatever vehicle we happen to be needing it in at the time. For the Mav, we just put it in the little depression in the dash in the front middle. It did slide around some (and in retrospect we probably should have adhered it lightly to keep it from sliding off the dash when making sharp turns), but that seemed to work well for us for a temporary location.

We went through many tollbooths across IL, IN, OH, PA, and NY (as well as the bridge going into Canada at Niagara Falls), and the sensing equipment picked up our transponder every time, across multiple types of scanners.

So if you're not getting it to read, I'd suggest swapping to a different transponder as yours is likely not functional.

FYI, resist the temptation to upgrade to the new "sticker" transponder. I found out the expensive way last year that PA does not have the equipment to scan it, and paid dearly for it. I had to go back to the "battery" style like you have now.

I have the I Pass sticker on mine mounted right behind the rear view mirror. I’ve had no problems. However, if you go through parts of OH ie near Cleveland, it won’t work in the fast pass lane. You have to go through the “Get a ticket lane” and give them your transponder number and they’ll enter it manually. Pain in the @$$. But it works fine and you get the discounts. Believe me, I’ve thought about going back to the clunky transponder. Hope this helps someone.

The batteries do go bad eventually. If you have one with the HOV switch and it does not beep when you change it, it is bad. Mine sits in the tray on the dash with no issues.

Has anyone attempted to change the batteries in a i-pass?

I haven't had an EZ-Pass in over 5 years, but I recall at the time that you could get one that attached to the front license plate instead of mounting to the windshield. I wouldn't know if that is still an option.

My Sunpass Pro box is mounted via suction cups to the right of the mirror near the top of the passenger side. This is a 24 Lariat. Works in Florida and NY and at border crossing bridges equipped to read the device. Used it last weekend in NY and Mass. Definitely working as I had a prompt to top up the account when I got home.
Canadian tolls (Ontario) are WAY more expensive than US ones.
