man it sure seems like it sometimes. Actually why I bought it. Fuel mileage aside my stuff only last 5 years. So in that time I save 30k just on the purchase price between that and my f-150.
I can keep burning up these instead of 150’s. So hoping to get 10 years out on the expensive ones.

It’s also a good thing. Even if I make a bad choice on tires, oil, or anything. I only have to live with it for a bit then I can get new.
Hence why I seem to have an opinionated stance on most things that come up. Mainly because I get to test things like air filters and see if it does last the test of time and miles.

Di carbon buildup is affect by engine oil. The carbon comes from oil vapor through the pcv. Either as oil being baked off form high heat or foaming. Both major hurdles for a turbo engine.

The more the oil can bake off during high heat and pressure the more will move through the pcv and attach to the back of the intake valves.
Well then we also have the issue of lspi. That is a major concern with small turbo di engine like ours.
In fact so much so that every manufacturer had to come up with new ratings for oil.
Take a look at a few threads on the focus site and you will see why oil does matter.
How many Mavericks have suffered damage, even minor, from LSPI?

Hard to say. Most owners have no idea what it is or what causes it. They just know that they applied the gas and bad things happen.
I’m not trying to say it’s even a huge issues as most oil companies figured it out quick and adjusted.
my point was these are not the old school tacomas and jeeps a posted was referring to that any old oil will do.

Keep in mind many focuses had lspi that was not the known cause. Till one day someone had a data logs going when it happened and red flags got tossed up. I can’t remember which tuner company also caught it. Everyone assumed bad tunes, bad engines, all kinds of speculation. Then ford, and many oil companies decided it was definitely causing issues.

Lake speed jr had a good video of what the oil companies did to remedy it.

I thought 18 k was a lot in less than a year. I'm retired so I don't have the daily commute but we have been driving the wheels off of this thing and loving it!

All these people on this site complaining about intake valve carboning have no personal experience of it actually happening. They keet repeating stories of teardowns of 20-year-old Focus RS race-only models showing carbon. The fact is that the current 2.0 does not have this problem at all.
I thought they were all Ford Truck Salesmen/women trying to play us, Posing as mechanic’s. Trying get us to trade in for a 25 model, :D

50,000 a year is heavy yes but for 12 years I was doing 90,000 a year in Tacomas, Rangers and F-150’s
528,000 miles when the Tacoma started getting wimpy.
My intake vale’s are gonna be just fine.
