There is a well know saying in the auto industry and by most mechanics that:

“You should NEVER buy the first year of a new vehicle.”

Knowing what we know now of the various manufacturing, recalls, and delays in parts,

Is the impending rollover of unfulfilled orders into the 2023 model year a blessing in disguise?

It may be a good thing that production is delayed. It seems obvious that Ford needs to refine their assembly processes.

I have never bought a new model either. But I have a good friend that had two hybrid Escapes that were totally reliable. Surely Ford could build new sheet metal?

When I ordered my truck over 8 months ago, I wanted splash guards. The dealer said that splash guards would delay the build. I told him fine, I don't want the truck until they can figure out how to install splash guards. So I put myself at the back of the line - for a reason - proficiency.

I don't need a new car, my old Fords work just fine. I loved the design of the Maverick, particularly the low height of the bed. I would also like better gas mileage. I was excited for 6 months, disappointed for two months, and now I just don't care anymore. If my order shows up in May 2023, that will be fine. Maybe Mavericks will be complete and functional by then. Maybe.....

That nice Mr. Farley seems more concerned with building oversized golf carts, like the E-Mach and Lightning.

I get ya. That’s why I am ok with my Mav being built this week. Dodged the hot cat issue, sibl/gas tank. Who knows what else has been found out.

Ford is currently scheduled to produce '22s through Friday October 21, and making '23s on Monday October 24th.

They are probably not going to make many changes over a 2 day weekend, maybe some color changes.

MSRP and resell value will probably be the biggest difference between a '22 and '23.

Same. When I finally get the build email I'll be running around in a panic like I'm having a baby. Until then, meh.

FWIW, I talked to a Ford dealer last week and he doesn’t expect any significant changes between model years. He said MSRP might go up a couple hundred bucks, but not a lot.

Maybe I'm just lucky. Ordered a 2013 Fusion as soon as it came out. Got the 1st one delivered to my local dealer. I've driven it 140,000 miles and the only thing to fail has been an O2 sensor at about 100,00 and a fog lamp bulb at about 50,000 (other than brakes and tires). Replaced serpentine belts and plugs this week. Tuned her up and she still runs like a scalded dog. If they hadn't stopped building them, I'd possibly be buying another

I would say no since even though there will be price protection some dealers are already having issues with the mid year price protection. Another thing to remember is options and packages may get tweaked and you will have to change with them when they roll to 23. So if for instance you ordered alto blue and it is replaced with a new color you will have to change your color choice. One change I see very likely would be the loss of bedliners on luxury packages considering how much trouble that has caused Ford scheduling.

Outside of the certain price increase, the biggest differences I think will be packages offered. There was a bunch of things they could have done with the 22' that they didn't, so well see what they roll-out.

So I have a question in regards to 2023 ordering. Will the early orders with Lux packages, 360, and bed liners get filled rather quickly (relative to orders placed later in the year) or will they automatically delay your order with constraints?
