Hello..

I bought the stock harness and power lock from ford and installed them in the tailgater of my '23 XL. Unfortunately, when I press the fob or the button the door, the tailgate does nothing. I verified with a voltmeter that I'm not getting 12v to the lock itself.

Am i missing a step, do I have to enable something in the computer to get it to communicate/send voltage to the tailgate lock? I have it apart currently and I'm at the early stages of troubleshooting. I wanted to make sure I didnt miss a step before I really dig into it.

thanks

I have a ‘23 XL and for me the upgrade required no extra steps. Like you, I used all official Ford parts (new harness and new power lock), not the cheaper splice into the harness method. Mine is a hybrid, but as far as I know no difference between EcoBoost and Hybrid in the tailgate.

Are you sure you connected all the wires? If I recall correctly, there were at least two connectors inside the tailgate that were hard to see and harder to reach.

You might also want to check the fuse box. Maybe you manged to blow a fuse during the install.

I also have an XL and did the swap using al OE parts and didnt have to do anything extra, i was thinking the same thing about both connections inside the tailgate. It was straight forward and everything worke like it was supposed to when all done

I rechecked with better jumpers and It appears I'm getting voltage at the lock...depending on whicgh wire you test, it momentarily sends voltage to either terminal depending on if you push lock or unlock. I tried unplugging the lock mechanism and jumping 12v to each side of it... No joy. the only thing I didn't try was adding an extra ground to the lock itself. I find it hard to believe I have a bad power lock mechanism but I'll fiddle with it more tomorrow

Does your back up camera still work?

If the camera had been dead or intermittent, I would have suspected the connector under the truck near the spare tire. Maybe you did get a bad solenoid on the power lock. You might also want to use a small mirror and a light to look at all the connectors inside the tailgate.

Good to know that the power tailgate lock is as simple as a plug-n-play. Not a make-or-break feature for me but more like a "might as well if it's that easy" if I get an XL.

What I'm really wondering is if a power seat is a plug-n-play swap. I know they are for 13th gen F-150s (and probably the 14th gen as well) thanks to main harness commonality. Wires in the plug on the chassis side are already there, just the basic 4-way manual seat only has airbag and seat belt buckle wires on the seat plug.

Starting with the 2025 XL models, it is a different and harder upgrade.

Just realized that from this thread:
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...talled-power-tailgate-lock-for-2025-xl.69681/

It's a bit unfortunate, but I've literally never had a power tailgate lock so...can't know what I'm not missing I suppose. I even opted to order my topper with regular mechanical locks. I find it quite convenient when I need to take the truck in for service because I can just give them the ignition key and they have no access to the back.
