I have a 2023 maverick hybrid. I tried using the heater. The temperature gauge was between cold and hot. I turned the temperature knob to 85 degrees. It blew cold from the large vents from the dashboard. When turned the fan knob to high it switched to warm from the smaller defrost vent on the top part of the dash. Am I missing something when using the heat from the engine ? I hope I explained this right. Hope to hear from someone.
Wait until cold then try the AC

As a retired software developer, I really miss the simplicity of the all-manual HVAC controls in my 1987 Mustang. The software in my Mav HVAC is glitchy and sometimes needs a power cycle reboot for the AC to blow cold air. I would cheerfully ditch all the useless software "features" for a reliable system that just does what I ask. All non-trivial software has bugs, and the problem balloons with multiple developers and products on a LAN like the CAN bus, all fighting to communicate.

So your ambient temp was too high for the ceramic heaters to come on.

If your coolant gauge was "somewhere between" - likely too high also.

You only had heater core to rely on - and depending on where you were in the scheme of ICE on or off - it will be cooler or warmer, but it for sure can be hot, and will cool off faster at max heat.

Where you set the thermo (Hi) will result in the ICE running more often, to maintain a minimum temp to hit that goal, and because it cools off faster.

At low thermo selection (like 60 ambient, I select 70) - I've seen the desired minimum be IIRC about 125, just barely above the non-HVAC minimum 120 F. Not "hot" air, but good enough.
When the differential is bigger (lower ambient) - I've seen 135 be the minimum. The max before ICE turnoff increases too - seems I recall mid-150's.

So you should be able to setup a scenario using manual mode (no Auto button), upper vents only (no defrost or feet), fan on say 4, thermo on HI - and feel decent heat as a test.
If not dealer may need to do some HVAC system resets for that blend door.
Pretty simple Service for Actuators Calibration.

I, too am learning how to run the climate control of my '23 XLT hybrid in cool weather.
I often wonder what's going on when I don't feel breeze from the vents; I presume that the system is somehow trying to maintain the selected temp, given the outside temp.
One thing I will try is turning the climate control off, and seeing if the system works like a conventional heater.
The system won't blow cold air at your face, it'll use the defrost vents until it can deliver warm air and then automatically switch to the front vents.

😞 Long gone are the old days of the simple slide valve on the coolant lines to the heater core.

And just having the option for simple setup. I never saw as simple as that though.

I mean - truck's got Auto mode already, besides engaging the AC automatically if it deems required.
Fine.

Could have made manual mode like old days - instead of putting up a cabin temp desired - just make like 9 levels between LO and HIGH when you spin the thermo dial.
3 levels of dark to light red, 3 levels of purple (or white), 3 levels of blue going darker.
Turn the AC on automatically if defrost is pushed.
If manual is option selected - really make it manual!
