When fully open the trifold rests against the cab above the glass. There are rubber pads on the cover that protect the paint and two prop bars to keep it in place. I'm going for a mtb ride tomorrow. I'll take pics then.
Just curious if you have a 'special' place to store the front tire...or is it just thrown in the bed or back seat?Here is my partially completed mount for anchoring 2 Delta fork mounts. It will be clamped down with a single 3/8” bolt thru the board w/clamp under bed rail. It should allow me to carry my road bikes without leaving tailgate down. Just added completed pics and tailgate is up and still have 1 1/2” clearance. *added bonus. Found out I can drive into garage with bike still mounted in the bed

I am going to get a soft roll-up tonneau cover and will need to move the mounting rib 5 1/2 “ and shorten the rails to fit snug with the bike mount there.I just added a Yakima rack to my Diamondback bed cover! You definitely saved a ton of money doing it your way!

Lookin good! I am towing a camper in addition to hauling the bikes so I really needed to mount them in the bed on mine.Young Electric Dual e-Bike Rack
My simple bed bike rack solution. Works because the road bike frames are small enough to fit with the front wheels off, and with two boards together the handlebars cleared the tailgate.

Did you do anything to fix the 2x4 stack in place?
I don't, there's about an inch or two clearance front to back so it really doesn't go anywhere; rear wheel against the cab and you're good to go. The planks could stand to be wider for side to side stability but since I was using scrap pieces I didn't worry about it.
