I purposely went to a local place for my 1st oil change because I had a crooked dealer (another story). So, I'll eat a few free oil changes.
That said, I brought my own oil and filter (Royal Purple 0w-20 & MicroGard Select filter).

The seal around the drain plug was bad per the tech (see pic). Apparently the seal should completely cover the bottom, thus not seeing any of the backside (silver color). So he replaced it and it mentioned the original plug was on REALLY tight from Ford factory. As were the tires for the rotation.

I would bet my last dollar the dealership would have put the plug back in.

I guess my moral is check that plug if possible during an oil change.

That one is less "flat" than the one I pulled off mine. But I would bet when tightened that the gasket in your photo would have "squished" down and filled the void.

Here is mine.

Your tech is wrong. Suggest you find another tech.
Thanks but if you look at lower left of seal, the lip (lack of better term) is gone. Compared to the othe 3/4 of the seal.

maybe it’s not bad but it’s worth my comfort level.

Looks fine to me.
I'd love to hear the techs explanation.

We can't see the rubber because of the angle the pic was taken.

Either way, put a Stahlbus Valve on it and be done with it.

You might want to find someone else to do your oil changes from now on out and you should stay with manufactures oil filter at least !

Do not know on maverick but I have had cars in the past which required the seal to be replaced whenever the plug was loosened.

Agree. That is the only reason even have a photo of my stock drain plug. Ha!

My experience: 22 Mav EB and 24 Mav hybrid.

I do my own oil-filter changes. On both the above Mav's, the drain plug was acceptably torqued from the factory and the green seals were in good condition and reusable.

Neither of the OEM Motorcraft 400s oil filters was overtight nor too loose from the factory. I used the larger Motorcraft 910s filter as a replacement so as to get all 6 qts of oil [5 qt jug+ 1 qt] into the engine. Dipstick shows right at the full mark.

One detail about oil changes anywhere but in my garage is that I wait patiently for the old oil to drain to the max extent possible. I think that detail plus pre-filling the oil filter using the 1 qt bottle are under appreciated. Dealers and quickie lube places don't.
