18" BAP wheels in gloss black?

I'm having a hard time warming-up to the matt black finish, they always seem to look dirty. Had a local wheel shop quote $500 to re-powder coat the set with a gloss finish, any thoughts?

IMO, you're nearly halfway to an aftermarket set of wheels. Unless you are in love with the design, I'd be shopping before powder coating the OE wheels.

I wonder if they take the tires on and off for that price?
Because you can probably buy a different set of wheels off marketplace for that price.

Why not just spray them with a gloss clear paint? There are specific spray can paints made for wheels by Rustoleum & DupliColor that are $10-$15 per can. But the best durability will probably come from a 2k clear. I've used this one from Eastwood on another vehicle's headlights after I'd refinished the plastic.

You can spray the wheels without removing the tires by using the playing card method (or use index cards) to mask the tire. No idea whether your next tire mounting job may cause damage to that paint though. When the machine pushes the tire over the edge of the rim... that's a lot of force & grip from that rubber being applied to the paint.

You are not alone with these thoughts... I have the XLT BAP and was thinking about powder coating mine gloss black as well.

Yet, as someone suggested in another thread, I may get a different set of wheels to experiment with. For example, I like some of the Bronco Sport & Mach E wheels designs.

Let us know if you decide to go through with it.

Funny you mention the BS wheels, I always thought the BS aluminum "steelies" had a good look to them, and I've found a set for sale nearby, but they are Carb Grey.

You can ceramic coat your wheels to gloss them up and make them pop ....easy to apply and really helps with break dust that way you get the best of both worlds gloss and protection.

Just be generous with tire dressing. I do that and they look nice and glossy for most of the week.
I have other plans for color but it's a good temp fix....

Not a fan of these wheels either, but I wouldn't pay any money to refinish them. I'd just buy my own set.

I have them on my Maverick... We are going to paint them Metallic Carbonate Gray... same color as the stock 17 XLT wheels... and put on a couple coats of clear. I think it will look better than the Matte black.. I'm in Mexico and it's a good friend who is an auto painter who will be doing it for me (or with me, as I'll help out).... Will do it towards the end of February.
