Got my mav 12/31, this morning I was changing out from the wild peak at3w to some blizzak dmv2 for winter on the first edition/fx4, gloss black 17” wheels. I was doing it myself, and noticed spots on the wheel well where paint was missing, the spots seemed like they never got painted. I also noticed obvious discoloration, where the paint didn’t seem black, more of a gloss brown/bronze.

I already talked to the dealer, and they said it would be covered under warranty, and that their body shop would repaint them in-house.

Has anyone else with these wheels noticed anything like this?

** I didn’t have a chance to take a picture while I was doing it, my shop was busy at the time so they needed my service bay**

If they repair them any other way than by powder-coating them the paint will come right off again.

They will need to ship them out for powder-coat to fix them properly but I would probably demand new wheels.

Looks like the sprayer missed parts of the wheels as it rotated. They probably QC the faces and let the backs slide. Ask for new ones, but if you only see it when the wheels are off the truck, I’d leave it alone. It’ll be covered in brake dust and be matte black soon.

Yes, I have the same issue on my FX4 wheels. Just noticed when I swapped my winter tires yesterday.

Edit: added pics.

Thats exactly what mine are like.

I’ve been waiting 5 months for the dealership and ford to do something. Dealership keeps saying that ford needs them to compare my wheels to another set of the wheels which they havent had.

Every other set of painted wheels I have (vw, Audi, etc.) have even black or gray. It's a quality issue at the supplier. 3 of 4 are like this.
