12v cigarette lighter parasitic

Hi everyone,

I am about to install a Rexing V1 into my Maverick but realized that the outlet stays live for 90 minutes after shutting off the vehicle.

I am ok with this approach as long as it is not parasitic. (Could serve as my parking monitor)

Would letting a dashcam run for the 90 minutes be very parasitic to the Maverick
Or should I be ok to install it?

I would rather hold off on getting a hardwire kit as the dash cam I have is not compatible with the rexing hardwire kit and I would have to get a compatible camera.

b) I would not allow any device (even as low draw as a dash cam) to run 90 minutes after key off in my hybrid..

I would test it. See if the dash cam does drain your battery to the point you can't start the car when leaving it unattended.

Have a portable jumper box handy.

Does the camera have a setting where it powers off when the battery becomes low?

The truck has self turn off, 12v plugs sub system will turn off early if battery measures low. Camera and most 12v systems that aren’t dumb just wires types also have turn off for low batteries.
Big Butt, The 12v system has a flaw of self drain of more amps then a camera system already. They don’t know the cause or how to repair (hybrids)
There was a post thread about hybrids no longer being for sale until 12v system fixed, if that is the root cause.

Here is what i do Not sure you want to go this far. I use a switch based 12 volt lighter plug. So when I stop the car even though the factor lighter is hot for 90 minutes I turn the switch off and that is where my dashcam is plugged in. NOW I want my dashcam to stay on. I do this by using a battery in the glove box I bought that is plugged into the switch via a usb cable. . It powers the unit the dash cam is plugged into even when the switch to the factory lighter is off. This way it drains the battery in glove box. BUT that battery in glove box is charged by the factory lighter when the the switch is on. Which I only turn on when I car is running . So I have to hit the switch button which is on top of plug that goes into factory lighter. It also has a readout of voltage on top of the switch.

Not sure i explained that very well. My buddy had this setup and walked me through the setup. At home I can then manually turn off dash cam. I keep it on otherwise while parked away from home in case I catch a person hitting parked car.

There are some reasons. The most common one is that some dashcams have parking mode functions where they use an accelerometer and/or video motion detection to record if there's an 'event' while parked.

Some cameras have cellular or wifi connectivity. If an recording needs to get to the cloud, the camera can't power off as soon as you turn the ignition off. I use a Garmin Mini2 with Garmin's OBD2 connection. It's very much worth using their connector rather than a hardwire because the plug has a switch on it to choose how long to power the camera with ignition off.

Also, almost everything in the Maverick besides OBD2 can be shut down by Deep Sleep. I understand the functional design and practical value of power management, but a dashcam may not pull much current at all and you can't use parking mode or upload footage if it's been powered off.

I'm running a Garmin Dashcam 47 off a USB adapter in my 12v outlet, haven't had any issues with the battery yet. The power draw on the dash cam is so low that I really don't think it will matter that much.
