So.. I have good and bad things to say about this thing..
And honestly i do like the concept, but i just don't care for the execution.
I went into this thing expecting a corolla level of build quality, and craftsmanship.
Understand i didn't expect supple leather seats, and 2in of thick sound proofing..
But.. i did expect to be in something comparable to a hybrid corolla or a prius.

First the good.

It's Genuinely amazing on fuel.
It's a good small car with a bed, and works well..
(Though I still think this should have been called the Ranchero)
It handles pretty well..
Mine is Alto-Blue and it's actually a sharp color
The paint quality is really good
The drive-train is well balanced for efficiency and power when needed.
The interior color scheme is a great way to make something cheap look more appealing.
It fits in my garage
It takes a lot less time to clean than the F150
I like the view down the hood when driving it.
even though it's a hybrid it's far less pretentious than a Prius.

Ok, now the bad..
The build quality compared to my Grand Marquis and F150 is appalling..
It honestly makes a new Base corolla look like a Lexus..
It's actually right on par with the VW GTI i owned.. Which was also built in Mexico.
(The door fell off at 13K miles)
All the Panels rattle and creek.. (it's worse when it's cold)
The windows are already slowing down when you roll them up..
The screen is junk, and honestly if it was a normal shape, in a normal dash hole, i could at least replace it.
The scissor seat design is stupid, the taller you are the more of a hole you sit in..
The lack of a standard rear sliding window means that open windows are constant wind buffering
The Eye glass holder isn't correctly molded so I have to bend it to open it.
The Gas engine is Pinging on regular unleaded, so i have to run high test or octane booster to get it to run right.
The steering wheel is de-laminating already, and the plastic/leather cover in the luxury package feels like the same material you would get on a coat at Walmart.
I can physically rock the wheel on the column when i grip it in both hands..
The front Strut mounts are plastic, and they rattle when the temp gets cold.. so you get a really unpleasant front end clunk that the only other vehicle i have driven that had that problem was my Uncle's 1987 Hyundai Excel when it was new'ish.
The Co-Pilot is a waste of money, as the Blindspot monitoring is selective, Sometimes it cares if a car is 15ft past your bumper, and when someone is right in your blind-spot, it doesn't' let you know..
It's all over the place on the highway, it is exhausting to drive on the highway..
The Lane keep is a good way to die, the car will actively try to push you into oncoming traffic..
Also having issues with dealership support, i had a tri-fold ford bed cover, and it was either made wrong, or there's a defect in the design, but it's been 3 weeks and I still can't get them to replace it or refund me the money.

Honestly wish i could get my Mercury or F150 back..
I would take the MPG hit.. even at 4.49 a gallon..

Side note:
Is there a For-Sale portion of this thread, as i am definitely selling this thing..
You sound quite bitter lol so ill try and be delicate. Ill just address one thing. I have quite a bit of experience with f150/250s… both of the last 2 generations of them have some of the worst interiors ive ever been in lol so i dunno what youre talking about with that comp. anyways. Sorry to see ya go

Took my Maverick in for the first oil change (was a little late at over 6K miles). I am having a lot of fun with this truck. I have a '19 Ranger STX for all of my off-road and boat haulin', the Maverick is for city/trips, and gas milage is great for both too. Overall, I'm happy!

I am pleasantly surprised that you have not received more harsh comments on your post. This seems to be a pretty positive Mav forum. No one even pointed out that the creek in "all" your doors is really a creak! Oops, I just did.... 🙂
we pronounce it “crick” ‘round these parts.

We also called it a "crick" in Iowa where I was raised. In Georgia most small streams are called "branches". Just have to go with the "flow" so to speak!

I am sure someone will buy your Truck. Actually I really like my XLT and the gas mileage is awesome coming from a Honda Element. I feel like I am driving NCC-1701 compared to that 06 Element.

I'm kinda surprised at how people are jumping on the original poster; he did laud the Maverick for her good qualities.

It might well be that he got a truck built on an off day, when they were looking to rush them out.

The other thing is that we don't know how much he paid for the truck. Why I mention that: my summation of the Maverick is that the XL and base XLT are a great value, and the materials used are perfectly appropriate at that price point. Thing is, many Mavericks, when spec'ed out, get a bit costly - and when compared to Rangers, Tundra's, etc., the quality of some of the Maverick's pieces aren't up to par with the aforementioned vehicles. On a 21-24k truck, the materials/components are appropriate; if someone is spending more than 30k, they might be a little disappointed.

Ford went into this not knowing the runaway success the Maverick would be, and I doubt they assumed that buyers would be spending what they are spending on them - had they had this foreknowledge, they may have marketed/trimmed the truck differently with more expensive models.

Going into this, it seemed as though they marketed it to urban buyers, etc., yet on fanpages, I am seeing a lot of these being used as trucks. In this way, Ford was on a bit of a learning curve.

It was a good effort on Ford's part: I don't fault them. But if I can use this as a comparison: in the 80's, imagine an Escort priced cheaply, with more expensive trim levels being priced firmly in the Taurus price range. At that point, people are going to have different expectations.

Thanks to the OP for a candid opinion. I find it a refreshing change in a sugary sweet sea of threads claiming the Maverick is the world's most perfect car.

Differing opinions are not only welcome here, they're desired.

I hear what you are putting down- I did drive 3 Mavericks (All Ecoboosts since we needed 4k tow+awd)- Two XLTs, one with LUX and one without- And a Fully loaded Lariat/LUX/ECO- The first drive in the XLT NON/LUX soured me. Cold morning start- engine sounded dreadful and the truck just felt cheap AF. I was like hell no cancel order- Then I drove an LUX/XLT much better but still like ok is this really a $32k rig ? Then drove the Lariat- Instantly changed my XLT ordered trim to Lariat and it cost me another 3 months of waiting and $3K and to each his own but no way was I dealing with cloth seats again, missing out on push/button start, proximity entrance and so much more. It aint no Benz regardless but we are just NOT wanting any of the big ass "Mid-Size" trucks- Cheers

Well, that certainly takes a little wind of the sails. I do find you honest and believable. Some of the negatives will not be noticed by all but others you aptly pointed out and should be addressed. To keep it in perspective here - it is your opinion of your ownership experience. There is value there. You are not critiziing others just stating a well thought review.

Now i'm thinking 'should I just take it when it gets here and see if it fits my needs'? I intend to use if for commuting only but will not put up for long (at all) with loud road noise. That is a sure sell sign. Value is one thing but cheap is another. Also, your reference not staying in your drivers lane. That seems to contradict other reviews but I will watch it closely. I don't want that either. This Maverick order was a late night decision after 3 glasses of wine. First FORD ever owned in 46 years of car ownership. If I don't like it, I sell it shortly afterwards and don't get hurt. Pretty safe deal with I can effectively take a new car on a 90 day test drive for free.

Heard elswhere also that we should use premium gas and will feel and hear the difference. That's news we can use. No pilot for me and certainly no folding bed cover. (just use some low profile lockable boxs). You can keep your sliding window also. They are dust bowls in Texas and car thieves love them.

I for one appreciated your review. And you as well for posting it.

Hell yes! I still have mine 206,000 and will keep it for a while. If there are any warranty issues, I will still have a descent driver for work. NCC 17 :)

Definitely better than my Jeep Wrangler. I thought that I might miss the stick shift, but now I no longer miss it.
