I worked almost 10 years at a Ford dealer parts department and billed out a ton of oil with the part number of XO-0W20-QFS.
It's the part number of a quart of 0W-20 full syn oil.
The rest of your post I can agree with.
It's actually a portion of the Motorcraft part number that designates it being full synthetic vs synthetic blend.
So you're correct that it has nothing to to do with an industry standard or abbreviation
The only reason that I know of where buying a Ford ESP as soon as possible is cheapest is that most things tend to increase in price as time goes by.
So an ESP that cost X number of dollars today will probably cost more next year or the year after. How much more is anyone's guess.

I had a similar experience when growing up when a neighbor who was a cop told me and my friends to not answer cops questions if we got in trouble.
He said they will make it sound like they are trying to help you when in fact they are seeking incriminating evidence.
